Sukhoi skids at Pune airport, flights hit | Firstpost

Pune: A Sukhoi-30 fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force skidded and shot off the runway at the Pune airport here Thursday, hitting civilian air traffic, officials said.

“The Sukhoi-30 skidded around 9 am today and got stuck in the soft mud beside the runway of the airport, which is owned and manned by Indian Air Force (IAF). We have no reports of any casualties in the incident,” an official told IANS, requesting anonymity.

As a result, at least 10 civilian flights from around the country to Pune were either delayed or diverted to Mumbai.

The IAF and Airport Authority of India crews were engaged till about 12.30 pm in efforts to tow the fighter jet out of the mud off the runway.

The airport officials said the airport would resume normal civilian flight operations later Thursday. The airport at Lohegaon on the outskirts of Pune is a major IAF base.

Defence officials in Mumbai, when contacted, declined to comment on the incident.

Pilot Kay kaan Khinchoo, Skidding karnay ko Fighter jet he mila thaa? Or this was technical fault

Sold off or they were on lease ?

They were on lease for training crew, and more importantly, for developing tactics. India had never handled such a huge, heavy, long range fighter before, and it was a big leap in capability for the force. So they needed these to develop new tactics. These were vanilla Su-30 without canards, so actually a different airframe from the MKIs. I think these were leased in '96, as soon as the contract for MKIs were signed.

Not only different air-frames but different avionics. All the "bells and whistles" got incorporated into the MKIs.

Some idiot must have oiled the runway for to make the MKI skid. Its a stunt anyway,...our male MKIs
can do stunts like skidding on runways to impress female MKIs
