Karachi attack: Mock drill conducted at Delhi's IGI airport

I agree though the local police (non-SRU) are the weak link in all of this. They are still unarmed and untrained to deal with anything like this.

Thats what exactly i meant, Imagine a respnse time of 45 minutes from the start of an attack..... for a fiyadeen attack 45 minutes is more thanenough, and that time is enough to achieve their objectives..... That is why i always feel equipping the local police by giving them the training is the most important point.....If they could respond to them in say under 10 minutes, the damages can be reduced to a great extent.

The only thing i saw growing in local police is their tummies.....

NEW DELHI: In the wake of the recent attack on Karachi airport, a multi-agency security mock drill was carried out at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) here on Wednesday.

The drill involved swift operational movement of commandos of the National Security Guard (NSG), CISF and other airport security officials in the wake of a probable attack or a hijack like situation at the highly sensitive facility, thronged by thousands passengers.

The exercise went on for about an hour and it concluded swiftly and smoothly, sources involved in the drill said.

"The aim was to check the preparedness and coordination between all the security agencies deployed on the airport which includes the CISF, NSG, Delhi police and other civilian component of airport defence. The objective was to respond as one unit in the wake of a Karachi airport like attack," the sources said.

A crisis management group (CMG) was also activated during the drill period which observed the activities of the units working on ground, the sources added.

The Union home ministry, few days back, had alerted all the airports in the country in the backdrop of the attack in the port city of Pakistan after which vigil at these air facilities has been heightened.

Blimey! Looking at the thread title.. for a moment I thought the drill was conducted in Delhi before the attacks in Karachi! Now.. that would have taken the argument to whole different level, if that was the case!

I think NSG should have maps for all important locations and even do drills so that they know very well the place.

Additionally they should have some kind of truck loaded with weapons all the time. So they can start.

I will also invest in cutting edge, like look through xray type machines..

Post 26/11 the NSG has done this- the NSG HQ in Delhi has drawn up a list that is constantly being added to for building that may come under threat and the local NSG hubs send out teams to drill there regularly alongside the relevant local police special response teams as well as compiling a NSG database of all such locations.

The main NSG CT task force in Delhi has its alert teams on 24/7 stand by with their gear and such all packed up and ready to go within a couple of minuets once the call is given, all NSG hubs have a similar alert team.

Done bro, they have got A LOT of new tech recently and are still adding more and more...
