Sinking of INS Sindhurakshak

I must say we should take this disaster head on and stop comparing with chinese for god's sake. Its immaterial whether they have good aip or not the fact remains we have none either. Its time to stop comparing and chest thumping and acknowledge the adversary's strength and learn from it

Who is Chest thumping dear?

That is subjective. Besides India has a free media. China does not. It can afford to shroud everything in secrecy. All the ruckus is made by the media. The Indian Government did not say that - See we are now the best in Asia or anything like that. If the Defense Minister said something to you in person - then its another matter.
One big difference, China never boasted of its navy. Not then and not now. India in contrast are so ecstatic over an empty hull being floated.

Humility is one of the many characteristic Indians can learn from the chinese.

India boasting is well known around the world, synonymous with delusion of grandeur, your media can put a tailspin on every story and the public, the quiet little sheeps they are can believe everything.

Let me ask you this, do you think India is capable of building an aircraft carrier on its own? When you can't even salvage a sunken submarine that is in your own port.

India government is even more ridiculous, lowering the definition of poverty and then go to claim they have lowered poverty. Last time i checked DRDO is still an Indian government agency, so how many broken promises have they made? Let's dumb it down, how many broken promises this year alone have they made.

Usual mental diarrhea

Let me ask you this, do you think India is capable of building an aircraft carrier on its own? When you can't even salvage a sunken submarine that is in your own port.

Yes , because we are building it .

You are comparing apples to oranges .

India government is even more ridiculous, lowering the definition of poverty and then go to claim they have lowered poverty. Last time i checked DRDO is still an Indian government agency, so how many broken promises have they made? Let's dumb it down, how many broken promises this year alone have they made.

Defence establishments sometimes face failures . Sometimes not .

It is the usual fact everywhere , not confined to India alone .

Pakistan has an edge over India in underwater combat: TOI

NEW DELHI: If India goes to war today, it will have just seven to eight aging conventional submarines to deploy against enemy forces. This deeply blunts the country's underwater combat edge against Pakistan, which already has five relatively new conventional submarines and is angling to get six more advanced vessels from China, said a report published in Times of India.

Beijing, of course, is leagues ahead with 47 diesel-electric submarines and eight nuclear-powered ones.

The INS Sindhurakshak disaster last week, which blew a big hole in the Indian Navy's operational capabilities, has further compounded the problems.

Indian Navy is left with only 13 aging diesel-electric submarines - 11 of them over 20 years old. Four of the 13 submarines - nine Kilo-class of Russian origin and four HDW of German-origin are undergoing "a long refit'' to extend their operational lives. "Two kilo-class or Sindhugosh series submarines are at Hindustan Shipyard Ltd at Visakhapatnam, while two HDW or Shishumar-class vessels are at the Mumbai naval dockyard for the long refits," said a source.

The Navy does have one nuclear-powered submarine INS Chakra, taken on a 10-year lease from Russia last year, but it's not armed with nuclear-tipped missiles due to international treaties. INS Chakra can serve as a deadly `hunter-killer' of enemy submarines and warships with its 300-km range Klub-S land-attack cruise missiles as well as other missiles and advanced torpedoes.

Pakistan Navy, incidentally, is the first force in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) to have submarines equipped with air-independent propulsion (AIP) in the shape of three French Agosta-90B vessels.

Conventional submarines have to surface every few days to get oxygen to recharge their batteries. Bu those fitted with AIP can stay submerged for much longer periods to significantly boost their stealth and combat capabilities, somewhat narrowing the gap with nuclear-powered submarines.

India, however, has even dithered in taking a decision to fit AIP in the last two of the six French Scorpene submarines being constructed for over Rs 23,000 crore at Mazagon Docks under "Project-75'', which is already running four years behind the original 2012-17 induction schedule. The first Scorpene will be delivered only by November 2016.

Why Indians are trying to discard the theory that Hydrogen was not responsible for the initial explosion in the submarine. Answer is that Indians had insisted to use the Indian produced batteries in the sub, Indian produced "EXIDE" batteries were thus installed despite concerns and fears expressed by Russians.

Indians must guard itself from Indians produced technology and items.

Folks we are fortunate that India has insisted on use of Indian produced items in such sensitive and complex systems.

Yesterday morning, many news caused some alarm. The explosion at the Indian submarine built in Russia, and even that was recently renovated in Russia ... And now began to receive interesting information. RIA "News" published a report , which states, inter alia: A source in the Russian defense industry confirmed RIA Novosti, that at the request of the customer on a submarine batteries have been replaced by new ones, Indian during a recent renovation and modernization of the boat on the "Sprockets". "This submarine has 12 foreign-made systems, though not all of them are Indian, but the customer stood up for something like that many systems have been his own production, "- said the agency interlocutor. Another quote from the same posts (Konstantin Makienko - Deputy Director of the Center for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies (CAST)): Last year, I attended the decommissioning of the boathouse "Sindurakshak" in Severodvinsk and noticed that even then the Russian experts were very concerned because of the battery, "- said Makienko. The message here: So it is not so simple. way , while Russian experts to "Sindurakshak" is not allowed (again, according to RIA "Novosti".)Original taken from zvezdochka_ru in submarines "Sindurakshak" as we remember it. Exide is an American company that filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2013. In fact Exide has been supplying Batteries for US Submarines.

Exide has been making submarine batteries in India from the 1980's.

In any case considering the magnitude of the explosion it is clear that more than one warhead had exploded.

Usually in submarines warhead are not activated so either the missile / torpedo's were activated while loading them into the submarine OR the safety feature that keeps the warhead inactive failed and activated the warhead.

The possible reason are either failure to follow procedures while loading the torpedos and missiles OR
Failure of safety features in these torpedoes and missile.

Humility is one of the many characteristic Indians can learn from the chinese.

Cross-cultural value judgement is a tricky business. Instead, cultural differences and diversity should be embraced.

That said, I don't think Indians lack humility per se; they are simply more excitable and have less emotional control.

One should never expect the Nigerians to be like the Germans. People are just different.

It'd be wonderful if dead pigs are the number one problem for Mumbai. You see, with over 60% of Mumbai's population living in slums, and rapes and sexual harassments occurring daily, dead pigs suddenly don't sound so terrible, do they?

It bothers me to see India do so terribly, not just when compared to China, but when compared to just about any country. I really wish to see India do well, but frankly, both from an investor point of view, and from the point of view of a human being, India is heading toward a very gloomy, dystopian future.

The tragedy is that all this could have been avoided had India made the necessary social and infrastructural investments when the economy was doing well, but India frittered away every opportunity it had so that now it's heading for a complete economic collapse.

Will social collapse follow economic collapse? I really hope India can pull through, but if you live in India, I pray for your wellbeing.

To be fair, India has a 'paid' media, just as we do. There is no such thing as free media.

India has a 'paid' mainstream media. If you wish to report the truth you can. But whether it reaches the public or not - is another matter. :D
