RIYADH: Saudi air defenses intercepted seven ballistic missiles fired by Houthi militia in Yemen toward various targets in Saudi Arabia on Sunday night, the Arab Coalition helping Yemen's legitimate government said.

Three of the missiles were fired toward Riyadh, two toward Jazan, and one each toward Khamis Mushayt and Najran, Saudi state news channel Al Ekhbariya quoted a coalition spokesman as saying.

Missiles were targeted at residential areas and one Egyptian civilian worker was killed and two were injured, said the news channe. It did not mention which place the casualties were based.
Witnesses reported loud explosions and bright flashes in the sky in Riyadh, apparently caused by missile being shot down. No casualties have been reported.

Since November, Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi militias have fired multiple missiles into Saudi Arabia, all of which Saudi forces had successfully intercepted without causing any damages to lives or properties.

The Houthis launched a missile at Riyadh on Nov. 4, targeting King Khalid International Airport. Royal Saudi Air Defense forces intercepted the missile and shot it down, and there was no damage.

A UN Security Council-appointed panel confirmed the missile was manufactured in Iran, along with three other missiles fired from Yemen toward the Kingdom this year.

How about you wait a bit to hear from credible and non-biased neutral news source & analysis before believing a mouthpiece. Especially given how videos already show things were not so successful.

They haven’t shot anything, it does look like the missile desintegrated upon re-entry...if by chance you look at the scud Sadam launched against Israel or Saudi Arabia in desert storm..the failed ones lighted the skies the same way ...and via the posted video, it doesn’t clearly show any interception...no contact explosion whatsoever..

US is supplying both sides, keeping the demand and supply going.

Maliki: Al-Houthi militias are the first terrorist group in history that has a «ballistic»

its a war between two arab countries or llets say 3 or 4 and its an arab issue soo let them solve it by themselves we the ajams( I talk for Pakistanis only ) shoudnt interfer

Outstanding job by Saudi air defenses and the PAC-III. No worries about one missile that didn't function properly, the rest did a great job and especially at the terminal stage, and just at the outskirts of the capital. That is fantastic work.

I laugh at those who jump on the one failure and sail with it lol. This is war and these things happen, especially with complex systems that are tasked with very difficult duties. Intercepting a ballistic missile in it's terminal phase is anything but easy and you can clearly see several of them taking out the incoming ones. 1 failure out of that batch and the goons are jumping up and down. Ridiculous. Hopefully Saudiya wraps up this effort soon and puts those miserable terrorist scum houthis back into the depths of their caves where they belong and help restore Yemen to the country it deserves to be, far away from the grasp of these thugs and terrorist scum.

Good job Saudiya!

Depends upon the intercept mechanism in use: [1] Fragmentary blast, or [2] Hit-to-kill.

[1] would lead to creation of an intercept cloud and the incoming ballistic missile would slam into debris (i.e. fragments).

[2] is a clean approach.

A ballistic missile can also disintegrate upon impact, leaving falling debris in its wake.

So we cannot generalize like that.

My assumptions were based on Scud video,s launched on the Sauds and Israel during Desert Storm..and were written before new videos of the failure of the Patriot PACIII where shown. For me it wasn't a hit or an interception that the PDF were cheering about..I was seeing something different..

Saudi have fielded different PAC variants to defend important regions.

I see deployment of a Fragmentary Blast variant in the available footage. Not sure which one came down and why.

PAC systems that were utilized in 1991 were "concept demonstrators" - not true interceptors of ballistic missiles.

PAC-3 is the true interceptor of ballistic missiles. And it has a high success rate in tests and otherwise.
