S-300VM Air Defence System will be good for BAF then new jets

My point exactly. If we buy Russian then our air defence system would actually be an extension of the Indian air defence system targeted at China. That would not be a friendly gesture to the regional superpower.

And any aggressive posture against India is fine I guess.

.
Within a year BD is going to secure all its Air bases by air defence system. . . Gradually they will cover all over the country. . . . But haven't found any detail news on it . . . ... And russia previously did not sell mig to syria after israel asked them not to. So obviously they will listen to India.

Yes, they'll have a 3D air-defense system up and running within next year

"In addition, highly-placed intelligence sources say, the Bangladesh Air Force is negotiating with Turkish arms dealer ASELSAN to buy Shorad (Short Range Air Defence) system and 3D air defence radars during the current financial year."

I suspect the deal with the Turks went well :azn:

I honestly don't think that BAF need a SAM system with a range of 2,500 KM

I hope they replace the aging A-5s someday. They shouldn't go for Russian jets.

to him india is not a regional super power i guess

Many Indians would say otherwise

If S300 is considered, everyone knows this is India specific.
Seriously, why is so hard for to you to get it. Indian Airforce is predominantly dominated by Russian beauties. Russia will be foolish to sell this system to BD and expect India to be OK with it.

And why would india not be OK with it? Does india intend to attack Bangladesh?

Bangladesh is a safe country and dont see any reason to waste money on jets and air defence.

Bangladesh should aim to be like New Zealand, no military defence, but a proud nation, good in sports like cricket will help too on international stage and other stuff.

I still don't get it, indians keep harping on that we don't need to spend on defence, india will help defend us, or there is no threat... bla bla bla.

We do not want / need or ask for your help in defence...we are not your protectorate...Why is it a concern of india / indians what our threat preception is? Its our business, you guys have no say in it, period.

Bangladesh cannot play a secondary role to any other nation when it is time to defend the country. BD will procure its defence system considering both India and Burma are its POTENTIAL enemy countries. I am not here for a war. But, military planners have different mind. They will plan everything to counter an air attack.

Russia will decline a BD request of an air defence system that will send the missiles to the sky of India. As such, BD should pursue another source. I have read somewhere about BA considering the purchase of a Turkish system. The brochure shows that it can locate more than twenty targets simultaneously and fire at five or six. This is more of a defencsve system.

It is not a direct military threat from Delhi that we perceive, but a pressure Delhi from a position of strength. It disorients our own domestic as well as foreign policies. We want to get rid of any Indian influence, real or perceived.

Isn't that a script from The Arthasastra?

Do you think countries like Canada and the Netherlands don't need a military? Both countries are under NATO umbrella, but they still have a sufficient defense. Even though their military is relatively small, but sufficient and professional.

Although India is technically a friend of Bangladesh and grateful for its help during the Liberation War, I don't agree with India's seven point demand in which it says that Bangladesh doesn't even need a military, it was a flawed approach.

The point is not getting into an arms race with India OR China for that matter.

The point is - given the volatile nature of the SA region, and the potential for conflict between India and China, having a secured airspace to maintain Bangladesh's sovereignty is a strategic imperative. We won't let either India or China a free pass to use our territory for their own benefits when it comes to military affairs. And, it is not in the best interests of Bangladesh to allow foreign armed groups like ULFA to operate on her territory, which I believe is not too difficult.

That is why Bangladesh needs a sufficient defense to maintain its sovereignty. Those aging A-5s and F-7s that the BAF has must be replaced at some point in the future. Having a secured airspace is a strategic imperative for any country regardless of neighborhood.

Bangladesh must build a robust defensive military as soon as possible. There are no reasons for India to worry as BD can never be a threat to it. If India has no aggressive designs on BD, then they have nothing to worry about the pruchase of new jets, ships, tanks and submarines by BD as they will only be used in self-defence only.

Due to the poverty levels in BD now, it probably cannot afford to think about purchasing large numbers of weapons till about 2020 anyway.
