For the second time within a week, drones (allegedly) target the largest Russian military base in Syria

06/01/2018

Lattakia province – The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights:: Hmeimim Military Base, the largest Russian military base in Syria, was targeted in the past few hours, on the 6th of January 2018. In the details obtained by the SOHR, a drone, which sources stressed that it belongs to an Islamic faction operating in the northeastern countryside of Lattakia, targeted Hemiemim base, but the forces in the base targeted and took down the drone and there is no information about human losses or material damage caused by this targeting.

This is the second of its kind, after a similar targeting on the New Year Eve, in which a drone targeted the base and caused material damage to the areas it targeted in the base.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights published on the 27th of December 2017 that two explosions rocked the countryside of Jebla area located in the southern countryside of Lattakia, and the SOHR learned from several reliable sources that the explosions resulted from at least two missiles attacks that targeted the Russian base in Hemeimem airport, located west of Jebla city, which the Russian President visited two week ago, and there is no information about causalities so far.

The targeting came in conjunction with heavy missile shelling by the factions on the regime-held positions and areas in the northern mountains of Lattakia, where the factions targeted areas in Kurds Mountain areas and Shalf Citadel, and Abu Ali Hill, and so far there is no information about human losses in the ranks of the regime forces and their allied militiamen.

The drones seem to be quite primitive.
