Prompt Action On Border Pushes Pak To Offer Olive Branch, Says Both Sides Need To 'Formalize' 2003 Ceasefire

Pakistan's Ambassador to India Abdul Basit

New Delhi: After facing a barrage of gunfire from the Indian troops in a tit-for-tat response on the border, Pakistan on Monday offered an olive branch to India as it sought to take “shelter” in a 2003 ceasefire agreement between the two sides.

Pakistan's Ambassador to India Abdul Basit on Monday stressed on “restrain” between the two armies at the border.

“I think the two countries need to agree to formalize the 2003 ceasefire agreement,” Basit said in an apparent bid to cool down the temperatures at the border.

“We need to move from symbolism to substance and from conflict management to conflict resolution,” the Pakistan envoy said.

To deescalate tensions between the two sides in the aftermath of Uri and other developments, Basit said that Islamabad didn't even know what was happening when Uri happened.

“When Uri attack was underway, Pakistan was being blamed, this when we did not even know what was happening,” ANI quoted Basit as saying.

Referring to the issue of Kashmir unrest, he said, “To claim that those who attended Burhan Wani's funeral were instigated by Pakistan is wrong.”

Won't cut much ice. Conciliatory noise was bound to happen.
Initiating a low intensity warfare based on religious fervor is kinda easy.
What, if your antagonist decides to wage one as well. Are you guys capable of handling it economically. We have managed Kashmir, Punjab etc etc for years. We will manage Kashmir for years to come.

It's clear that the mandarins & who's who of Pak establishment haven't thought this Kashmir policy through & through like Kargil.

.
Uri was the last nail straw, what about Pathankot ?? where GPS located traced back to PAK?

shelter behind 2003 C??
ok don't do it. we are not begging. you fire 1 bullet we will fire 10 for it. as we are doing.

. .
If that were true, it would India, which would be pleading to formalize the cease fire agreement.

Actually on the ground it is happening other way around.
yes. india is killing civilian population while getting killed by pakistani snipers.

. . .
we even give the names of the dead soldiers.

Ok, So tell us the names of soldiers, who were killed in India's Operation Ginger.
or
Even forget about names, just point out any media report ,where Pakistan army accepted, It has lost 11 soldiers in a Tit for tat beheadings on the border.

Point out the media report, where ISPR has publicized the death of its soldiers, in India's cross border raids.
after Kargil.

The very same raid on which Pakistan had quietly filed a report to UNMOGIP.

“Ever since 9/11,” a senior Pakistan army officer told The Hindu, “we have sought to downplay these incidents, aware that a public backlash [could] push us into a situation we cannot afford on the LoC, given that much of our army is now committed to our western borders. Each of these incidents has been protested by us on both military and UNMOGIP channels.”

In my opinion, the conclusion of 1 month long border tension is

1) India raised a nonsense of Surgical Strike
2) India violated ceasefire and martyred 2 Pakistani soldiers
3) India dreamed of blocking water, isolating Pakistan, Fighting against Pakistan as per their news Channels etc, all backfired

Whereas Pakistani news channels were busy talking about MQM, Altaf Hussain, Pakistan vs West Indies cricket series and some news bleeps about India in between as if they didn't even take them seriously. The only thing they did is relatilaition to Indian cross border fire which lead to loss of lives from both sides.

It is quite evident that Pakistan was not interested in fighting against India despite them provoking for the whole month and only resorted to counter attack in retaliation. Even Shahid Afridi was laughing in the TV show when he made a tweet that Pakistan and India should not fight as it will lead to bloodshed from both nations and Indian media reporting his tweet as Shahid Afridi got scared, plead to India for not fighting against Pakistan.

On the contrary, the world views it as India finally responding aggressively to terrorism, while all this while it was mute and tame about it. As for Pakistan -as a peacemaker?..naah, more like just desserts. The world looks it as "Get rid of the snakes or the neighbors will go after it".
