Peeved IAF Looks Beyond Russia To Revive Ilyushins

Not true just ask the Turks why they replacing systems on their F16 with Turkish ones?

They are replacing it to make their industry better. The end result of any nation is complete self relaince in all spheres.....I am not saying the Kill Switch issue many not exist.....As of right now India needs to close a serious gap with China....in order to do so....it needs to look well beyond Russia and defective equipment....

Remember, at the end of the day, Turkey is a serious NATO partner and ally....

Russia has helped India in all aspects like space, defence and energy we will always remember when USA big bully sent its aircraft carrier to the bay of bengal and the Soviets helped us.

Only if you work towards building a relation similar to Russia. Like I said countless times, pick and choose wisely. Of course there are certain equipment that India may not get from the USA, yet. Nonetheless, buying tanks and planes that Russians won;t even use is beyond logic, don;t ya think

The previous US system installed in the plane had automatically classified all Israeli planes as “friend,” preventing attacks against them. The new system will allow Turkey to determine whether or not a target should be considered as a “friend” or a “foe.”

Yes India needs to issue tenders for defence purchases in the future this will help meet offsets and a increase in competition will only help our domestic industry.

Funny you forgot how the US helped India by sending a carrier force to the same Bay of Bengal to deter China from prolonging ther attack and causing them to revet back.

Now think about that for a bit.......Turkey recently has been posturing aggresively against Israel ....and both are key allies to the US.....I think that is preventive measure...but at the same time I see the concern for India and her ability to make independent choices...

The differences between IAF and Rosoboronexport should be conveyed to the Russians clearly. But it is to be kept in
mind that Russia is the most reliable defence partner we have ever got, and our strategic partnership with them in all
fields will help us tremendously due to geo-politics in the region.
However, i am also of the favor that IAF should look to other suppliers but the importance of Russians should never ever be underestimated.

Cheers

When Obama came to town in India he lifted dual-use tech exports to India but so far it has not yielded any major results.

Funny, Saudis don;t use T-90's and if they did, it was a favor for Russia.....they mostly use American Tanks. And you are comparing Georgia's needs to INDIA's needs? Are you serious? A lot of middle eastern countries use Russian Junk due to lack of access to American weapons and you see the results... Right Su-30 is the best plane to be exported from Russia recently but yoyu conveniently fail to menation all the upgrades all these countries made to the Russian Planes that the planes resemble hollow shells filled with numerous sources of electronic equipment, both foreign and domestic.

And the US has signed an India waiver for Nuke tech but no contracts have come this way either after all the pulling and hassling and the damage done to the American reputation after breaking this treaty for INdia's benefit..

I for on agree with Menon's analysis but this is the same guy who couldn;t digest a young man telling that China is not our friend in 1999! How times have changed.

It is due to the collapse of the Soviet Union but things will change in Russia, Putin is all to aware of the need to enhance the capabilities for the future.

The Associated Press: Putin: $13 billion for military industries upgrade

The collapse of the USSR is not the reason for the crappy defence equipment, the fault lies in the premise of the Soviet military doctrine which chose numbers over quality, which worked in WW2 but will not work now. The future will be a combination of both numbers and quality. There is no question India needs to rapidly jumpstart its cyberwarfare capabilities and build an incubation lab to bring ideas and tech from dreams to realities a actual products...

i agree Russia has contributed in ways that were never possible with anyone else. But times have changed, and INdia needs to look for the best and most reliable in terms of equipment maintenace and serviceability.

Russian equipment is not junk, neither are they unreliable though the west would have us believe so. Russian equipment is cheaper and economical. They may be comparatively low tech but the ILs and the ANs and the MIs are used the world over. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the IL-76/78s that we use. These along with the AN-32/12s have been the work horse of the IAF for many decades. It is only since the disintegration of the Soviet Union that the problems of spares and servicing have cropped up. We have been very patient with the Russians and have waited for them to resolve the issue. They have made progress, but issues till remain. Ultimately, we have to look after our own interests too. The IAF is therefore correct in exploring alternate supply chains for spares and servicing.

The C-130Js and the C-17s are not meant to be a replacement for the IL-76s. The C-130Js are for the Special Forces. This will release the IL-76 presently doing that job and make them available for other transport/cargo duties. They can also be used for moving cargo to distant unpaved, grassy landing strips the size of football fields. The C-17s are strategic heavy lifters. If you wish to transport MBTs and APC to distant parts, these are the birds that will do it.

As some members here have correctly suggested, India needs a mix of rugged and economical Russian equipment along with expensive, high tech and top of the line American/European equipment. The additional benefits of Russian equipment is that they come with no strings attached. That is not always the case with American stuff.

Yeah, well time to move forward in relations....you want to dwell on the past ...fine go ahead....and watch China jump leaps ahead ......while they assist Pakistan to gain equality whenever India moves ahead in any sphere. Wake up...you are still complaining about the past.....The British colonized and looted India....yet you have moved forward....so plz to you and others like you who spew this garabage the US past actions towards India....plz understand the geo political realities of the time and stop SCCREWING YOURSELVES OVER...

So true:shout::shout:
