Pakistan exists in two different times. The 19th Century and the modern times. There are people who still have that 19th century existence. Then some few people are abreast with the times.

Within this existence we have a junta that has continued where the british had left off. in the same traditions as the royalist colonialist british who were ruling over a large area and its people.

This is the bitter truth I have now realized...I was always under the assumption Pakistan couldn’t move ahead socially or economically because of (insert enemy countries here), but that was all a ploy.

The fact is the GHQ doesn’t want Pakistan progressing beyond what it is right now.…the powers that rule this country need an obedient dumbed down hyper-religious society so they can easily control and manipulate and divide them.

They are not interested in educating the masses, providing us with adequate healthcare and even giving us a basic 21st century lifestyle. What they want to the majority to live on the cusp of poverty, constantly in a state of anxiety.

A politically aware, vibrant middle class is something the GHQ doesn’t want. Why? Because it leads to precisely what is happening now. Grant it, the entire middle class of Pakistan isn’t behind PTI, and yet they’ve created such a headache for the GHQ and its minions to the point where they’re trying to instil fear into the people using the very tactics they claimed they never did to the Baloch. Funny eh?

This is a sad bitter pill to swallow.

With or without Imran Khan in politics, he has exposed the real enemy and I don’t see people ever viewing the military the same again…especially not in Punjab.

These views were already widely held in Balochistan, the Pashtun tribal regions, Swat, GB and interior Sindh. But now you’re hearing urban Lahoris and rural Punjabis on Tik Tok eviscerating the military on social media.

We all used to make fun of and even get indignant at liberals saying faujis are no heroes and they are doing it all for the salary, just like everyone else.

But, I am beginning to think these soldiers who run into fire and fury without thinking, don't necessarily do so due to a higher calling. It's "sahb ka order" that they are drilled to follow.
If their actions were motivated exclusively patriotism and devotion to duty, everyone knows what's going on and who's doing it. Any one from the 7 lac personnel could have mustered the courage.

I've disagreed with Mumtaz Qadri's actions but I have a newfound respect for the guy. He gave the ultimate sacrifice for his convictions. He didn't care about nokri, nor the fear of punishment. The man had a conviction and he fulfilled it. None of these 7 lac has any conviction. They are zombies that would just as quickly turn on the people they've sworn to protect as they would stand guard at the border against a hail of bullets and bombs, because at the end of the day, it's "sahb ka order" that they must follow above all else.

The Army are the chowkidar of the elites. The Generals are from the elites and some of the most powerful men in the elite. Each one of these people lives like a King - why would they want to change Pakistan? Pakistan is a country of such limited wealth if you drive a Landcruiser, police checkpoints salute you, just in case you are a somebody - ie someone connected to the elite. Why would the people who live that life want a society where most people can afford a nice car. In the UK if you have 2 partners working a middle class job, you can afford a Tesla or a brand new Mercedes or BMW etc, you have the disposable income to afford £7-800 a month on repayments for a top tier car. Why would our elite want the awam to have access to wealth? It degrades their quality of life - suddenly they won't be the hotshots they always were.

New Delhi: When the former Pakistan army chief Qamar Javed Bajwa was still a two star general (of the rank of Major General) from 2009-2013, a chartered aircraft from Islamabad would ferry one of his two son’s to London, where he was studying Bachelor of Engineering at one of the well-known and costliest universities of the world.Also studying with him was another son of a Pakistan army officer, who was not posted in the field, but was handling a “desk job”.
However, what made them different from the other Asian students, who had mostly taken student loans to study in the UK, was the wealth attached to them that would invariably become visible from their living standards.This was the time when Pakistan, like other country, was reeling from the global economic crisis of 2007-09 and its GDP had fallen from 6.8% in 2007 to 1.9% in 2009 and the inflation rose from 7.8% to 20.8% which led to millions of the less privileged population of the country not even having enough to eat.
People who follow these developments say that the number of children of serving and retired Pakistan military officers who studied or are studying in the UK comprise one of the biggest chunk of overseas Asians.
The average fees of pursuing an engineering degree from a good UK-based university during the 2010s for an overseas student was about 25,000-28,000 pound per annum which translates to 3,500,000 Pakistani rupees at the conversion rate of PKR 140 which was the rate at that time. The average salary of a two-star general in Pakistan at that time was not even Rs 1.5 lakh.
According to officials, the economic dire straits which Pakistan finds itself in today—which has brought global attention and pleas for help—has never impacted the army generals in the past and is unlikely to do so in the present or the future as these army officers do not depend on the Pakistani economy to sustain themselves.
The top ranking army officers, London-based officials say, are bankrolled by domestic industry players who need the support of the army to get government contracts. These same domestic players, in most of the cases, return the favour to the men in uniform by arranging for the present and future well-being of them and their family members in UK and Canada.
This includes getting the admission of their children in UK universities, taking care of their stay and arranging for their jobs in companies based in Dubai and London once they graduate.And these favours, that also includes purchase of movable and immovable properties, arranging for shares in hotels and travel related business, are not missed by either the British Intelligence or the US intelligence officials who, in some cases, have known to facilitate these favours for the Pakistan army generals with the idea to use them at an “appropriate time”. Even the Chinese entities, which are among the biggest investors in Pakistan, and are known as among the most liberal players when it comes to loosening their purse in lieu of taking favours, have bought assets for the Pakistani armed officers in the UK. Almost all of these transactions have been done in the name of limited liability companies (LLCs)whose real owner is hidden under a long series of legal documents which are not publicly available.

Pakistan produces really brilliant minds in science, management and academics. Yet, these madarchods sit on each and every institution without knowing dickall?

Problem is now, these thugs are like octopus with tentacles in every area.

Pakistan, at this point in time, is very much united, in the combined hatred of the establishment.

This is a long struggle. The reputation of the establishment is down to the dogs which is a good start. There will be some battles that will be lost, some will be won. Keep patience and keep fighting.

The reason why every institution in Pakistan -- i.e., military, judiciary, parliament, executive/gov't -- maintains the 'status-quo' is because that was their mandate given to them by the British. When the British left, they didn't just pack up all their bags and withdraw categorically. They left well-calibrated institutions that were designed to extract from this country, and loyalists who were to rubber-stamp the theft.

E.g., the British made sure to leave their generals in charge of our armed forces in 1947 and, surprise-surprise, the move led to a passable outcome in Kashmir (as far as British interests are concerned). Likewise, those same pro-British agents stopped the PAF's efforts in the late 1940s and early 1950s to buy US jets and, as a compromise, got us to buy unwanted Supermarine Attackers. We've always had dodgy leaders who clearly didn't organically rise from the bottom, but were given privileges and opportunity because, ultimately, they served a purpose for another power.

However, to Britain's (and later America's) credit, they had used Pakistan to achieve specific geo-political gains, so our elites had KPIs (so to speak). If they achieve those KPIs, they get to stay and carry on with their corruption; if they fail, they get removed.

Now, as America loses interest in using Pakistan, our elites are basically just sitting there doing their corruption, but without any real vision or ambition beyond the basics (real estate, laundering money, etc). However, even though they don't have a big job right now, they know that their role in this world is to 'keep the status-quo,' because that's what suits them and, eventually, their foreign benefactors.

The issue with Pakistan isn't just corruption or entitlement. It's incompetence and lack of ambition. In Turkiye, the generals sat back and let the experts do their work, and then collect cheques (via equity investments, shareholding, pensions, etc). The business elite in India don't care about their fellow Indians, but they make sure to build and expand huge corporations, invest in different sectors, acquire technological acumen, etc.

In Pakistan, our elite (generals included) are content with doing a mediocre job in the country, and, when they leave, get cussed out by a random Afghan refugee in God knows what back alley while smiling. It's not even corruption and greed at that point, but beghairiti and soost. It's as if our leaders haven't grown out of their 'yes-sir' employee mindset.

Not sure I agree with --especially given your tendency to troll most of the time.

But, in this case, once you remove the last pillar of stability in Pakistan, which is the Establishment, you'd see a chaos never seen before. As much I'd like the Civilian Supremacy, I don't think the politicians are up to it--and I include PTI in that class of politicians. Perhaps PTI has THE worst of all 'politicians' in Pakistan for a major political party. It is essentially a cult built around Imran Khan. Days before 9/5, there was a discussion here where even PTI fanbois agreed there is no future for PTI after Imran Khan. And 9/5 has totally changed the dynamics in Pakistani politics.
