Why a new thread on topic?? Is there some new big development in the area??

It's a potent ATGM, mass produced with the aim of defeating Indian armoured columns. It's as good as what our enemy has in it's inventory. There's literally no reason to phase it out or replace it. Even with the introduction of NLOS missiles, Baktar Shikan and TOW are going to stay.


Next generation ATGM is on cards but our military's mindset is India centric. As of now they don't have any next generation ATGM, so we don't need one either.

India have better ATGMs, they also have FnF capacity too.

It basically Pakistani copy of Chinese HJ-8 ATGM . We are planning to replace it with new Chinese ATGM ,HJ-10. Pakistan also need to supplement it with HJ-10 which is portable like Jevelen missile.

Pakistan also have more option with JV or ToT in this field now.

Roketsan develops three ATGM for land forces. Two of them are known and passed into production mostly (OMTAS, UMTAS). One of projects, smaller than others, whose name is KaraOk(Black Arrow) is not shared into public but kicked off with a SSİK meeting 2/3 years ago. OMTAS is going to replace TOW missiles in inventory, while Karaok is more or less a Javelin equivalent.

Wire guided systems are not prone to jamming while NLOS are fire and forget and can be jammed too right ? IMHO wire guided are slow but effective over all.

Earlier TOW models can be jammed.

The long wave infra red tracking source and xenon beacon is DETECTED by a thermal tracker and this thermal (IR) tracker can be jammed, disrupting guidance. This thermal tracker is in the telescopic sight of operator.

TOW2 has a coding scheme, 8-pulse code is generated which makes it hard to jam.

The penetration values given for Baktar Shikan are quite conservative. During the Balkans war, it had penetrated over 600mm RHA with first or second gen ERA plates over it. It ruined the reputation of Yugoslavian M-84 mbt quite badly, even Kuwait began working on an upgrade to their M-84s after that.

Despite its age, the BS has had several improvements to its guidance, warhead section as well as optics. It can prove to be quite deadly to the t-72 and company it may face at the battlefield.

That's now how it works. If we procure a tank which makes all your current ATGMs useless, then you have to buy new generation ATGMs to counter the new tank. You can't keep waiting for us to procure a next gen ATGM. So you've got your priorities mixed up.

No one needs to buy new generation ATGM every time new Tanks are incorporated by enemy, APS system are not going to save you every time ATGM are fired their is limitation. Most of the time systems are upgraded with new guidance kit or even software up-gradation sometimes do wonders. AIM 9 simple software update made it use against tanks too years ago for example. Another thing Bakhtar Shikan or TOW can penetrate from side and rear for generations coming.

According to Haris Khan PDF jevelen offered to PA by US comes under COINS material but Army rejected it in trials not good against bunkers cost go performance. Its was in Obama era.

Still the Best r RPG 27 and light version RPG 7 cheap reliable.
