how come Egypt with the military budget of about 7 billion can buy 2 mistral ships, rafale and mig 35 jet, ka 52 helicopters while having 220 f16s, large numbers of Abraham tanks, Apaches,good amount of IFV, potent navy,and potent air defence systems like s 300 and patriots.
on other hand pakistan with the same budget only have 76 f16, 60 jf17, 500 alkhalids,8 subs on order,15 zulus on order, few new armed personal carriers like dragon,have extremely weak navy,no long range sams?

Different accounting standards.

1. Egypt got F-16, Apaches and Abrams from America as 'aid', 'alms', for its role in peace treaty with Israel.

2. The other equipment is being paid for by Saudis, Kuwaitis and other oil kingdoms floating in oil. The only thing they can do is topple a fellow Sunni Muslim democratically elected ruler while railing against Iran for its revolutionary theme all the time too.

3. Pakistan is far more capable in its domestic industry even it includes mostly Western and Chinese equipment assembling and some manufacture. Egypt does mostly nothing in designing or manufacturing any domestic weapons. In the last 10 years, how many new weapons from tactical to strategic did Egypt unveil from its domestic industry? It is no Israel.

Official defence budgets are not accurate always. If a country says it spends $10 Billion towards defense it may actually spend around $5-$15 billion.

1) The Egyptian Defence budget is classified. Every figure on the internet is a guesstimate.

2) Egyptian military procurement works in five year modernization cycles. So every five to ten years major military purchases are made. Major deals are not planned on a year by year basis.

3) The Egyptian revolution of 2011 interrupted the last procurement cycle as funds were diverted. So deals for fighters (among other things) were delayed or put on hold. Those funds are now available again.

4) Any word on aid or foreign nations paying for defence purchases is hearsay. There isn't any concrete evidence for this, yet it doesn't mean it's not happening.

Well, Saudi Arabia and the gulf countries fund segments of our Military and funds our nuclear program. Also we have ordered billions of dollars worth of frigates and submarines within a year - 7 billion dollars is alot; its not a small amount.
