Pakistan unveils new Air Defense sytem FM-90/HQ-7B manufacturing by China

That won't be happening anytime soon.

Many heads rolled when this info was leaked on PDF around 2008 or 2009 i believe, PAF completely put a lid on the rumour mill. There were a few lucky ones to witness these gigantic systems near Lahore Sector Post Mumbai Attacks.

It was impressive with the speed and secrecy this system was procured. But PAF wala's were red pissed when it was leaked on PDF that PAF was in possession of FD2000's. After that, they have put safeguards in place to put a complete lid on all these rumour mills.

I don\t get it , the secrecy and being pissed part . Indian Electronic intelligence would've picked up signature of FD-2000 anyway. As you said, they were deployed near Lahore. What's the point of keeping it under wraps? Are they afraid India would develop tactics to counter it ? Boo yah, with the advent of High speed ARM missiles, you don't need any special kind of strategies to counter such SAMS

This is at least 5/6 years old induction. if this is disclosed, then chances are there is some other undisclosed induction too.

During the national military parade held on Monday, March 23, the first in seven years, Pakistan unveils a new short range air defense missile system manufacturing in China. The HQ-7B (export designation: FM-90) is a improved version of the HQ-7 (FM-80) that is a chinese-made version of the French Crotale surface-to-air missile.

HQ-7B/FM-90 is an all-weather short-range ground to air missile weapon system mainly used in important sites and battle fields air defense against air targets flying at low or very low altitude. It can not only effectively destroy precision guided weapons such as cruise missile, tactical air-to-ground missile and anti-radiation missile, but also intercept fighter-bomber, attack aircraft, UAV and armed helicopters.

The acquisition of this system by Pakistan is not indexed in the Arms Transfers Database of SIPRI that registers all the arms transfers worldwide. HQ-7B/ FM-90 is manufacturing by Chhina National Precision Machinery Import & Export Corporation (CPMIEC).

Crotale Mk.3 is just as good or better. this system could be a bane for India helicopters.

PAF upgrades Crotale missiles indigenously

Crotale Surface-to-Air Missile System « PakDef Military Consortium

ISLAMABAD: Opening a new chapter of indigenisation and self-reliance in defence systems, Pakistan Air Force has indigenously overhauled surface-to-air anti-aircraft Crotale missiles and upgraded its range.
The roll-out ceremony of this indigenously overhauled Crotale missiles was held on Thursday at the PAF Base, Chaklala. Air Chief Marshal Pervaiz Mehdi Qureshi, Chief of the Air Staff, was the chief guest on the occasion.
Terming it a landmark, official sources said the PAF has indigenously enhanced the Crotale missile original range of 20 kilometres to 30 kilometres. "The existing Crotale 2000 have been upgraded to Crotale 4000," said an official source.
"The overhauling of Crotale weapon system in the country holds out great promise, and will go a long way in enhancing our indigenous engineering skills," said Chief of Air Staff ACM Qureshi while speaking at the ceremony. "The present government has accorded high priority to self-reliance and indigenisation so as to stand on our feet in all the critical fields."
He said the Crotale overhaul programme is a major step in the direction of achieving self-reliance and indigenisation of weapon systems. In particular, the air chief thanked Mr Massel, the Managing Director of Thompson-CSF Air Systems, for sparing his valuable time and coming all the way from France to attend this ceremony.
In the normal course, had the overhaul of Crotale missiles been done in France, the cost could have touched $ 23 million. "But we have done it less then half of this amount," said a senior official.
Crotale missile system was inducted in the PAF in 1976 to ameliorate the short range air defence. Pakistan Air Force possesses sufficient number of missiles, the source said. With the upgradation of these missiles the enemy aircraft cannot dare to enter Pakistani territory, he added. The system has provided useful service to the PAF for more than two decades and has proved to be an effective deterrence against attacks on vital installations.

We still don't have even a single strategic defence system like HQ-9. I know Pakistan prefers to rely on a strong network on of AWACs and Fighters but Ground based SAMs have their own advantage. They are the first to engage enemy aircraft if fighters are not air borne. Makes a pre emptive strike unlikely.

Crotale NG : S-band Pulse Doppler radar (20 km), Ku-band TWT tracking radar (30 km), Thermal camera (19 km), Daylight CCD camera (15 km), and an IR localiser; VT-1 missile with Mach 3.5 speed

HQ-7 : E/F-band Doppler Search Radar (18.4 km range), J-band tracking radar (17 km range), TV tracking system (15 km range) and IR localiser; Speed: Mach 2.3

Can you please elaborate more on the improvements.

What if one day HQ9/FD2000 is revealed just like that:)
It won't be.

If procured, it should be providing highly sensitive military installations with air defence.

That also explains why we did not see it in MoD's annual report.

I believe the FM90, that Pakistan procured came with ESA tracking radar, as opposed to the PD one on Crotale and FM80

I am sure India knows that Pakistan has FD-2000 however, since it's a mobile system, what they don't know is where it is deployed or will be deployed....what is the Pakistani tactic....for example, one of their fighters making a scoot for the border, but within their own airspace, does PAF respond by scrambling fighters or deploy the SAM? Since it covers a large area (the FD2000), moving it from sector to another will change your plans. It is always good to keep your enemies guessing and in doubt....that is why most SAM systems are mobile.

Yara I'm talking about official unveiling of system like Burraq not about declaring where it is deployed

Who cares? 'Officially revealed'...what does that mean? As long as you have it, no need to be jingoistic about it.....why go all the way to satisfy Internet warriors so they can have a pissing contest?

You do realize that sensitive systems are not 'Officially revealed' anywhere in the west? Like exact ranges of the Missiles, Radars, their ECM ability, the Power output of a Naval Nuclear Reactor, the accuracy of the INS system installed on a Submarine....the exact radio bit rate for data transfer etc etc.??

Now that would have been a surprise. But I think that is not happening.
We need S-400 :pakistan:
We need but we wont get. In-fact a system of caliber equal to HQ-9 in proper quantity is enough for our needs.

So you are saying Pakistan posses HQ-9?
