Mr. Yahya, you seem to be having a comprehension problem - it is not being asserted that the JFT was designed to replace the F16, what is being asserted that in the same manner as the JFT, a replacement for the F16 should be considered - as a joint venture between Pakistan and China

Forgive the use of this word as I am presently incapable of finding any else. There is a thing such as 'aukat'. You being a clearly old member and yet bringing this up is astounding beyond belief.

American wouldn't grant Pakistan even to its access to its repair and maintenance staff even if you'd dropped a nuke and threatened to drop more. There is no question of if here? Not in its dreams can Pakistan think of buying even one and keeping it in impeccable service conditions.

Fight generation stealth aircrafts are real suckers when it comes to money involved. I understand that Pakistan has managed to scrape together quite a few jets by begging and strongly bargaining for them but for a program that'll cost America well over $250 billion is not something that it'll just hand over to any random nation more so one like Pakistan, for once the terrorist conflict (whatever illogical reason that is for them occupying Afghanistan) is dealt with America is going to warm up to India if China continues to progress at the rate that it is and Russia carries on with it's 600$ billion force modernization program and Pakistan procuring (something that'll never happen, more like begging) for F-35's won't be looked upon kindly by India.

So in short, no. As much as we all would like our Air Force's to have the best planes it isn't possible. Pakistan with its entire GDP can't even afford to replace a sixth of its combat aircraft fleet with F-35's. At the moment Pakistan should be having other priorities than unnecessarily trying to match its neighbours in military strength, an activity that is only a futile waste of money.

3. How will Pakistan manage to get funds for F35...

Good for US, at least their venture should cost them - but then the Indian like the Saudi, can afford this - and we only want to defend at this stage - really, I think JFT is such a tremendous leap that US or no US, it is just a very strong boost to PAF's capablity -- but the Indian is also close to the stage where US or Russia will not be as meaningful as before - people think this LCA project is a net loss, I beg to differ, The Indian will learn a great deal from this project.

Anyway to my thinking it's not weapon systems, it's economy, it's trade that can be a more powerful weapon than any of these ships and acft and tanks
