Pakistan should do more to end militancy in Afghanistan
PERTH: U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice says Pakistan should do more to stop the rise in terrorist violence in neighboring Afghanistan.

Rice says there has been an up tick in terrorism recently in Afghanistan, and that Islamabad must help in preventing militants from organizing attacks into Afghanistan from Pakistan's Northwest Frontier Province.

Rice was speaking to reporters Friday during a trip to Australia.

The issue is complex.

There are terrorists in Afghanistan and there are terrorists in Pakistan.

The border is like a sieve - anyone can come and anyone can go.

Both the Govts of Afghanistan and Pakistan are unable to control the terrorists.

ISAF is unable to consolidated their gains and nor can the Pakistani Army (the Pakistan Foreign Minister yesterday said that Pakistan has deployed over 100,000 troops!)

It appears that the terrorists have a free run of the areas they control and it also means that there is local support that can be genuine or out of fear.

One wonders what each of the players in the sordid drama can do more to bring things under control.

I am sure all are trying, but the bottomline is that the terrorists apparently are winning!

If India stops funding terrorism against Pakistan then the Pakistani side would be more intrested in shifting forces to the eastside and eliminate foreigners. The border is habitated by Pashtun and if marked as Taleban or Terrorist one can make propaganda but what did these people have to do with 911? And If US cannot win in Afghanistan with high tech weapons why do they expect from Pakistan with less? First Karzai should be removed, just like the terroristic warlords and their opium/heroin... Then we can move on...

Well, since you have bombings in Bangalore and Gujarat then the mass terrorists should be Indians. Oops, surely we will hear about Bangladesh or ISI connection but knowing the facts and Indian mindset we already understand yours...

If you had some knowledge then you should know that Al Qaida is Suadi orgnisation. Besides them there are lots of other nations that support them with finances and manpower. Unfortunately they find hiding places in the border and we can talk about that but I will gladly dump you there to find out how difficult it is o trace people... USA is pretty busy in searching and if they cannot find somtheing then India never will find anything...

I am sure we will take care and act in our national interest.

We are no cheer leaders for USA. USA can take care of itself and so can China. Blowing their trumpet by others only sounds...

Well, let's leave it unsaid.

India and USA have some shared interests and some shared values. We obviously have many differences as well. Not unusual, as we are a developing poor country and they are the richest superpower. We want Iran to be not attacked and have investments to the tune of $ 25 billion in that country which we don't want jeopardized by USA'a actions.

Anyway it has to be played well by both the countries.
