Pakistan needs to become secular, this religious crap has gone too far... how many lives have been lost? Shariah law cannot exist in a democratic country.

It can, provided all the people want Sharia to prevail. Unless of course, everyone's version of Sharia is different from the other.

But it seems everyone here ignores the biggest flaw in democracy - the constitution will be framed based on what people want, and not what is right.

In democracy it is taken for granted that people are smart and mature and would want what benefits all the people equally, which is not true at all.

The difference was that we had an illegal tout in shape of Musharraf occupying the top spot.Thus you really can't stop others from trying. Maybe Lal Brigade also thought that they will hold radio Pakistan/ PTV on gunpoint and do a meray aziz humwatno - same legitimacy both ways round.
