I have always been a strong advocate of better ties with Iran, but its obvious that their interests often do not overlap with ours, and anything above neutrality is simply a dream. From their point of view Chabahar and developing strong economic ties to India are a matter of great importance as Western sanctions have taken a strong toll on their economy. We know fully well that India uses this as a leverage against Iran since despite being backstabbed by New Delhi when convenient (IAEA voting for example), Iran still goes running back to India due to its large buyer base (driven by population size). Ideally we should always go for neutrality in Middle Eastern affairs as even the Saudis have strong ties with India, but they did not jump on the anti-Pakistan bandwagon like the Iranians did as soon as the chance emerged. Iranian credibility has undoubtedly taken a hit in Pakistan over the past couple of months.
