PAF Future Leading Aircraft

Yep, Waz is right, you have to live with EriEye/GlobalEye, if You want aircraft from Sweden to PAF.
Buying used Tranche 1 Typhoon, seems to be a bad idea as well.

Erm I'm British (born and raised) we never wanted the Grippen. I was speaking about the needs of the land of my ancestors, and yes the EriEye is the only thing on offer.
I'm also referring to the Tranche 3A. But it's a non-started as Pakistan does not have the funds.

Just looking at what Pakistan has spent on its navy for the past couple years ( a good 10-billion usd) I am not entirely convinced money is the issue. Keep in mind Pakistan did not decline the 8 F-16s because they were too costly. That’s super simplistic way of looking at things. The White House and State Department promised they were funding majority of the cost, but then congress scuttled the deal. Since a promise made wasn’t kept, Pakistan had to walk away so future promises aren’t broken as well. This is what any professional force will do.

If the PAF is convinced that the Eurofighters are a must have. They will get them. No ifs and buts here. I am personally not convinced of the reasons. 250 JF-17 Block 111s and 80 odd F-16s datalinked with largest AWACS coverage in the region is more than enough til the TFX & a Chinese/domestic option materializes. No need to spend so much money playing catch up when Pakistan can leap frog and become the first recipient of fifth generation tech in South Asia.

Its high maintenance & operational cost is very high. Rafales and Grippen are also expensive one but comparatively has less maintenance and operational cost to Flankers.

J-11/16 would be a good optional but it has higher operational and maintenance cost compare to F-16 and JF-17.

Not possible based on Su-27/Su-30MK Russian wont allow Chinese to sell it to Pakistan, design is Russian/soviet intellectual property :disagree:

I agree its not available as of now but Pakistan get it by paying royalty to russia and by getting good relationships with russia ... In this way russia will not lose india's trust but can get a new future customer however question is whether Pakistan want a heavy aircraft or not ...

We know that PAF is now facing lack of modern technology for future. We have in our fleet planes like F-7PG, Mirage III & V, which should have been phased out approx. 10 years ago. F-16 planes are though very good but in future we might see a problem in form of no genuine spare parts for replacement. JF-17 thunder planes are new and evolving but not to lead from front at the moment. In these scenario need for modern fighter planes has become more than essential. SO, my Topic is what should PAF do that actual need of department fulfil given a moderate budget of PAF.

I would request elders and experienced persons on this Platform to do participate in this thread.

how would have you face out mirage rose and PGs ten years ago when you bought the pg in about 14 years ago and rose upgrades about 15 years back?

$$$$$$ 20 billion is what 80 euro fighters will cost you. with weapons training and infrastructure development

That's likes more than the entire FOREX reserve of Pakistan

24 times the COST of THOSE USA F16/52 which PAF declined to pay $800 million for last year.

Looking at things realistically the cost to buy a truly world class late 4th generation fighter of twin engines is simply out of reach. THE PAF will only achieve this if

1. China provides J11 on some interest free loan basis
2. Some other financial benefactor provides the grant aid for a euro canard purchase

For THOSE suggesting fifth generation tht is well over ten years away IF AT ALL
They also said jf17 can't be done.

All of F-7PGs are acquired in 90's and upgradations are made on planes which already flew for 10 years minimum. I

wrong
f-7 were acquired in 1990s
Dear u are confusing with the name of variant "PG" never existed. Its either "P" Or "G". May be I am wrong u are free to rectify me but I have found no trace of PG. May be u can share authentic info with me.

Yes u are partially right. I have done some more research on that variant and i have come to know that these were delivered after 2000s. But only 57 of them.

.
next leading fighter must be stealth... u should not invest in a fighter that is going to be 2nd line nearly obsolete in 10 years.... we can have a stop gap fighter in mean time... j 10 is available... Russians may not object to sale of J11 especially if Chinese tell them they want to sell... I personally am against European options... save money and invest in 5th gen tech

What do u mean partially M/Ps were delivered in 90s and PG in 2002

Hi who so ever thinks that we need capability 1 VS 1 is wrong , we need a better 4.5 Gen plan for couple of reasons

1. Like Rafale Model it is always supporting Mirage 2000 and in terms of capability 1 Rafale = 3 Mirage 2000
Dassault Chief termed Rafale fighter jet as a true force multiplier and also said that a Pair of heavily armed “Omni role” Rafale has same combat potential as Six Mirage-2000s.
http://idrw.org/rafale-true-force-m...ge-2000s-deal-with-india-soon-dassault-chief/

2. On similar lines JF17 needed some thing which can complement its role more efficiently , Imagine SU35 (just for example) detect an incoming bandit 400+ Km and just vector JF17 to do the kill job . For me JF17 alone is going to be tough sell against many modern planes .Its a great plane but its role will always be to complement unfortunately F16 and JF17 doesn't share the same systems as Mirage 2000 and Rafale do .

3. To fill up the numbers quickly the dividend of MRF were there but we have to stop there is no pride in repeating which we are doing since 70s world has move on so shall we be. remmember PAF needed 200 Fighters around 2020 JF17 alone can only fulfill lets suppose 40% top remaining 60% capability has to be filled .

4. F7P/PG & Mirages have served there purpose and its pointless to expose our core to these birds . small scale order 4-5 planes a year should start around 2020 . Chinese order of SU35 was around 2 Billion for 24 planes similarly the dark horse in my view is MIG 35 which by incident shares the same engine as JF17 roughly.
Egypt order 50 Migs for 2 Billion $ (i.e dirt cheap) considering capability if not surpassing SU35 but are evenly matched .
http://en.yibada.com/articles/14448...-fighter-enter-service-egyptian-air-force.htm

As business consultant i would have negotiated ruthlessly hard deal with Mikoyan corporation for Mig35 since it is difficult times for Migs these days in term of orders with Engine Overhaul and support facility built my bets are on Mig 35 40 Mil$ a piece tru big brother of JF17
