You have to look at percentage of poverty in different class, there is no perfect solution. That is the key, no perfect solution.

So let some half starving Brahmins fall through the crack in favor of some rich BCs who take advantage of reservation again and again and we have the nerve to criticize social conditions in other nations.

Reservation should be based on the income level of the family. This concept of reservation that exists in India is something that is there to make sure Caste System continues to exist in India. Atleast in North India, its better. In my home state Tamilnadu, almost every caste except Brahmins are Backward community and most of the time the toppers are from backward communities. Government should measure some metric to get away with this system( like whether OBCs have improved ). But my wish is unlikely to happen. I believe slowly every caste will end up in SC/ST quota. By the way, before someone imagines me in Forward community, i am a BC candidate.

I use to think the same/similar lines, before I realized there is no perfect solution and this one is not as bad.

Reservation based on poverty and then further division based on caste will be best solution, but political compulsion will not let it happen, so when you cannot change it live with it.

We cannot just divide the entire quota based on population and some quota should be left only to merit. Supreme court said that number should be 50%.

Excuse me? the students in your school must be pretty dumb and arrogant to tease someone based on caste while studying 10th standard. This is exactly why the playing field must be leveled. The historically oppressed need more support to uplift themselves and reservation has helped millions of Dalits and other backward caste people, in spite of some narrow minded forward caste people's opposition.
Contrary to many of your claims, I have seen many students who entered my school through reservations do extremely well .

Most Nairs have left Kerala as they dont have any Job or educational Opportunities ...My ancestors were the one who Fought against Both british & Mughal invasion & Protected Kerala from being Plundered by the invaders ...

Look at what is our condition now in Kerala... we r Poorer then Minority like Muslims & Christians... there is No voice for us... heart broken we have left our land ... Now we have no stake in our Land... ur laws r Forcing Us to migrate from Kerala which was once Ruled by Us...

U can Take Kerala out of Nairs History But u cant Take Nairs out of Kerala History ... Ur doing the same thing what Pakistan Did to its Hindu population ...

It's 14% Muslims not 20% ..
And 2nd thing 4.5% is enough as many Muslims are well to do (atleast better than our brothers across the border )

Hindus are 78% .. They get representation 45.5% .
As far as I know some Muslims are part of OBC too so Muslim reservation actually goes above 4.5% and Hindus go below 45.5%

Down South there are Brahmins ( Im not a Brahmin) who are surviving on the brink of starvation with no access to any benefit from the state bcs 1. They are forward caste, 2. they don't form vote bank. Whats their fault then? Why can't quota be on economic situation rather than caste, bcs lets face it..not all FC are rich and not all BC are poor.

Economic criteria should definitely be a consideration to prevent a few from monopolising reservation. As for the forward castes getting reservation on an economic criteria, that is something that must be seriously looked into. However, those suggesting that an economically backward member of the forward caste is somehow equal to someone from the Dalit community of similar economic strata is being grossly unfair & belittling the damage that the social system has inflictyed on them. There is simply no comparison since a poor member of a forward caste never suffers social discrimination when compared to a Dalit who has the double weight of both his economic condition as well as having to suffer social prejudice.

Good news, will be good to see Muslims in better positions in India.

Reservation is part of life deal with it, stop whining. There are good amount of people whose family come out of poverty because of reservation and that is a big plus. Also understand slowly the cast which are getting reservation will get better at studies and the difference with general quota will reduce. This is already reducing.

. Reservation without reforms is bad. Imagine a dalit doctor or IAS officer's son get to use the SC quota instead of a Dalit village laborer's son? Even within the quota these two will fight for the seats and guess who will win due to better schooling etc.
