Myanmarese patients join AR health camp at Moreh
IMPHAL: Myanmarese patients underwent treatment at a mega health camp organized by the Assam Rifles at the border town of Moreh in Manipur's Chandel district on Wednesday. Altogether, 57 patients, including women and children crossed the international boundary for treatment.
According to the bilateral agreement, both Indian and Myanmarese citizens can move up to 16 km of their neighboring countries without any legal papers during a specific time of the day. Thus, large number of Myanmarese patients, who face lack of advanced health facilities in their areas, including Namphalong and Tamu located close to Moreh, frequently seek health advice from Indian doctors and buy medicines at Moreh, locals said.
The paramilitary force's 9th battalion in association with the Imphal-based Regional Institute of Medical Sciences ( Rims) organized the mega-medical camp under the aegis of the inspector general of Assam Rifles (south) at the border town's Kut ground, said an Assam Rifles statement.
The aim of the camp, the statement said, was to provide treatment to the needy local populace of Moreh and the adjoining border areas, where no sophisticated medical facilities exist.
It said that 24 doctors, including specialists in paediatrics, eye, orthopaedics, gynaecology, dental and pathology, treated 653 patients, including the Myanmar nationals. Free medicines were also distributed to the locals during the camp that began at 8 am and continued till 4 pm.
The response of the local populace was overwhelming, the statement said.
