Rs.7000 crores of debt a good enough reason?

How and why Anil Ambani bought into the Pipavav fire sale - Livemint

Btw, did you suggest they bribed the RM?

Their entry into the defence business itself was made to corner defence expenditure. And don't fall for these kinds of articles. In a booming Industry managing debt is not as much a problem as it looks. I can assure you that despite such claims of a 'philanthropic' buy, Anil Ambani will be walking away with a very very pretty profit.

That is a given, in the end the yardstick should be can it make stuff cheaper, faster and better and it so then rest is inconsequential.

Its still legal in India for business men to aspire for cornering a part of the defence expenditure and then even make a profit while doing business :coffee:

I was not aware Anil Ambani was claiming it as an 'philanthropic' buy. Do you have any links that could enlighten us ? :P

Rajput class are not going anywhere for at least 5 more years. They have been sufficiently upgraded. Received BrahMos and new electronics. They will continue to serve the eastern command for some time now.

The first 2 Rajput class are 35 and 33 years old

INS Rajput will retire once INS Chennai enters service, INS Rana will follow it 2 years later, with Ranjit after another 2 years
The last 2 ships which received MLU in yr 2010, will serve till yr 2022, being replaced by Vizag Class

Obviously there are in there to make money. Just like everyone else in the field. That is hardly surprising or undesirable.

It's not the intent to make money. It's the muscling in, using inside info and political influence to corner contracts- all of which are unethical practices.

AEGIS is the radar guided system and currently no ship in Indian navy is comparable to AEGIS.

The Aegis Combat System is an integrated naval weapons system developed by the Missile and Surface Radar Division of RCA, and now produced by Lockheed Martin. It uses powerful computer and radar technology to track and guide weapons to destroy enemy targets.

Thats similar to combat management system in Kolkata class. Thats why I said Aegis comparable ship not Aegis ship. Key component of both systems is their AESA radar, In Aegis its SPY-1D while its MF-STAR in Kolkata class. Both have similar functions on their respective warships.
PS: One may argue about other things like loads etc but then different aegis warships have different loads too.

I Think SPY-1D is PESA whereas MF-STAR is AESA. So in that sense MF-STAR is a generation ahead of SPY-1D, both operating in S Band. Thats why Israelis have developed and chosen more advanced and more effective MF-STAR and not SPY-1D.
