More Talwar Class Frigates for Indian Navy

If India shows even 50% of the proactiveness which China shows, we can get 3 Akulas updated fully. And mind it, these Akulas are better all its Chinese counterparts.
Even us failed to detect it,that too in us controlled water. Akula stayed in there water for more than a month by collecting hydrographical data & NATO vessels acoustic signatures and its movments.

Is it high time to think about a new naval base for eastern naval command in the line of Ins Kadamba? If you see then Vizag base is so congested and I don't think it will be able to support more warships under eastern naval command. Though Ins Varsha is being developed but IMO thats dedicated to nuclear submarines only and not for surface fleet. Anyone? @Abingdonboy @janon @Capt.Popeye

Project varsha is not dedicated for submarines.

Visakhapatnam is home to the eastern fleet, India's biggest, with 50 warships. The new base at Rambilli will decongest Visakhapatnam - also a major commercial hub - and provide a secure base that is removed from population centres.

The second akula will be a very welcome asset, needs to be prioritised.

How many Akulas are there that can be bought by India easily.
I think there are 3-4 more unfinished Akulas( who never completed). India funded construction of recent Ins Chakra and got it on lease and It will do same to second Akula which is 60% complete and get it on lease.

3 More.
1. Incomplete Iribris.
2. Kashlot. K322.
3.This one is not covered by many defence analyst's,butK419, Kuzbazz has been under repairs since 2010 and its repair was to be completed in 2014. But lack of funds. If India funds this. We will be getting this by end of 2016 as its overhaul is almost complete.

So a total of 6 Akulas can be brought in IN service. That's good with Arihant.

This says a total of 15 were produced. I think IN should try to bring at least 10 of these in coming 5-7 years time.

Sir, none of the unfinished Akulas except Iribis can be bought as others have been used for Borei class, but there are at least 2 Akula 2 submarines of Russin Navy which were inducted in 1995 and are relatively young as they spent most of there life on harbours. 3 Of them are under overhauls which has been afftected as economic problems of Russia. Russia is presently diverting funds for its Borei SSBN. If we are ready to spend money, we can get K322 and K419 into Indian Navy. While incomplete Iribis can be built to Yansen standards with VLS.

Not gonna happen. At best India is gonna lease 2-3 Akulas but not more. We have a confirmed plan for atleast 6 Indigenous SSNs(5000-6000 tons).

I never get why the Navy is so infatuation with CBGs,

A Carrier Battle group is useless unless it matches the fire power of the American CBG

If all you intend to do is set fire to Gwader and Karachi, then Vikramaditya and Vikrant along with their complement of Mig29Ks are enough

However for anything else like a confrontation with China, you need a much better CBG

A single 65000 Ton carrier along with its complement of 36 Fixed wing aircrafts and 8-10 Helis will cost 15 Billion USD
If the air wing comprises of Rafale M or F35C
It could be much cheaper if F/A18 is chosen

This money is better utilized in purchasing 12 Brand new Minesweepers, 100 NMRH, 6 additional Scorpenes and another 30 Mig29K for the navy

I don't think so Navy is interested in Sending the carrier into SCS...I think It'll be used as defensive against China in IOR
we're already planned to induct minesweepers, i don't think so money is the problem with MS or helis... as for Scorpene its ging to be 4 more... ans that's enough
