Mixed marriages?

Be Careful , Bro....
I am sure you heard about a love story where this Canadian Sikh girl went to India and fell in love with this Muslim Rickshaw driver and Married him in spite of their warning. They had her butchered and left lying in a ditch. The Assassins left the guy all hacked up and thought he was dead, but he somehow survived. When the news came out the Canadian Govt. went after the Sikh Father ad Brothers but I don't know the outcome of that case. Maybe you know as you are Canadian.

I am curious since you said "your father is Muslim" but did not say anything about your mother. Does that mean that you are a product of mixed marriage yourself ? In which case you would know better than anyone else here how mixed marriages pan out.

Is that a true story?? Thats seriously very scary if its true.

Yes Aamna, the story was on all networks of the US and then a very Popular show called "Dateline NBC" did a complete segment over the whole story how the Father and Brothers warned the girl not to marry this guy. But she was in love and went ahead with the marriage and ended up dead. The Indian Police recovered her body from a ditch by the roadside after her surviving Husband told the Police about the attack on them.

Lol please how many people here would be okay with their sisters or daughters marrying into a non muslim family.

My God, thats really horrible. I wonder how many people just waste such precious lives only because they don't approve of a marriage. Its very very sad.

No disrespect to anybody's culture , but when people from the 3rd world are given the opportunity to move to a greener pasture, its best that they leave their bullshit behind. He should have just counted his blessings and tried to find alternative ways to convince his daughter.

If the brother is not liking it, you can bet their parents, uncles/aunts, etc. aren't either. Lol, nothing to do with beta or whatever, it can get messy.

Benefit of one child policy, no brother, sister, aunts, uncles, just parents and grandparents, but the later are not in Shanghai, and I'm not in China.

So I have no relatives to speak of.

If India adopts the policy, two years later problem solved.

I can't offer generalised opinions because frankly its not just the third world countries where people are ruthlessly killed over trivial matters. I am not against one's right to choose a partner but one has to be reasonable as well, knowing where he or she is coming from. The only reason such things tend to happen more in third world countries is because these are close knit traditional societies where parents don't kick their children out of home in their mid teens. Obviously the behaviour can't be defended as its utterly horrible and condemnable but the point i would like to make is that everyone knows his or her family and society and to what extend he or she can take a stand against them. Wishing for more than that leads to such disasters.

Yea but as mentioned already , people tend not to have pragmatic/logical approach when they choose to be with someone. There is no justification for taking someones life.

Again, its like blaming a victim of rape for sexually provoking other people by wearing revealing clothes.

Can mixed marriages work? I'm dating an Indian Sikh girl and she's very open minded like myself but her brother found out about us and prohibited her from dating me. He told her it wont work out in the future. I knew a Sikh girl who married a Pakistani guy and they seem to be happy. It's just sad that religion can become a huge obstacle in love.

Just do what you and she want to do :)

But make sure that she is on the same page as you. Get your finances stabilised, Make sure you have some sort of support to fall back on.

It is indeed sad that outdated animosities come into play in indivdual lives.

I say go for it! :)

No, obviously there can't and shouldn't ever be any justification for taking someone's life. Just that people should be careful and save themselves from such monsters.

it does not initially but later on marriage is more about adjustment and if you cannot adjust to other's religious ways it might be an issue. Also, children can create a power struggle between two, if each want to bring up children their way.

And this. Do plan to have children?

One of my close South Indian friends is dating a pakistani girl. Both are atheists, both are westernised, so they are compatible.

Stop acting tharki or i'll chop your head off.

Lol. Thans for making me spill my drink on the keyboard

There is nothing wrong in liking ,Loving some one outside your Creed, Color, Religion, but things will be challenging for you and her !! Do give it a long and hard thought before you say "' I DO"" !!!

I like my brother, my uncles/aunts, cousins, thank you. Having a big family is actually a lot of fun and can be a valuable asset.

Not in India, btw.

You there is a story Ghangis Khan was betrayed countless times by his relatives, but never once by his subordinates. No matter how far away they are from him and how easy it may be for them.
