Tamil outfits seek ban on John Abraham movie Madras Cafe

CHENNAI: NaamThamizhar, a Tamil outfit, has sought a ban on the John Abraham-starrer 'Madras Cafe' for portraying the members of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) as terrorists in the recently released trailer of the film.

Naam Tamilar leader and Tamil filmmaker Seeman requested the Tamil Nadu government to stop the movie's release. "We would like to see the film before its release as we have come to know from the trailer that LTTE cadres were shown as terrorists," Seeman said.

"If there are no objectionable scenes, then we will be very happy and will not disturb its release," he added.

"It's become a fad to show LTTE members as terrorists in cinema lately. Thousands of Tamilians were killed in Sri Lanka during the 2009 genocide. Why doesn't anyone make a film on the genocide?" Seeman asked.

A few other Tamil outfits, including the Students' Federation for Free Tamil Eelam, have also lodged a complaint with the Chennai police commissioner in this regard. Britto, convener of the federation, said: "LTTE and Prabhakaran have been portrayed in a bad manner. It should be screened before pro-Tamil leaders and activists and objectionable scenes should be removed from the movie."

The outfit warned that they wouldn't allow the release of the film in Tamil Nadu until it's shown to them.

" Madras Cafe," directed by Shoojit Sircar, is a political thriller. The film, dealing with terrorism and civil war, was reportedly shot in Sri Lanka and India.

LTTE was a terrorist organisation and they killed thousands of innocents. If any indian wants to call LTTE as a group fought for freedom of tamils then they should also be willing to call people spreading terror and killing innocents in the name of islam across the globe as freedom fighters too.

Its stupid to bring politics , race , religion into films, except if the film was said to be based on a true story.
Fictionous stories must be protected . We all saw stupid opposition to Vishwaroopam.
Films must be free, and as a Tamil, I support Madras Cafe. Artistic freedom must be protected
