. .
and if DCNS bagged this deal then Rafale M is on its way ?
Won't be a bad aircraft, but whether IN is looking for a 4.5 generation aircraft (considering the AC will be inducted only around 2020-21 at best), that is anybody's guess.

Well bhai the way relations are going with US at the moment like a intense teenager love story they are most probably going to bag this deal along with F 35 and DCNS and Russians at best can be dark horses

well yes Britishers have since long not bagged any mega defense deal with India. but i have inkling the way the Russians are loosing defense contracts in India, there is going to be a reaction as per newtons law for sure. hope you understand what i wish to say as Putin is known to be unpredictable so India needs to ride a tight rope here

Good one, but i still see programmer nearly gets what customer wants :woot:.

Whole idea is to drum up and showcase a big military market in india. This is to keep western powers engaged and getting what we want in terms of investment , technology for other sectors. If India starts spending money on big ticket items left, right and center then we will end up being bankrupt quiet soon. I expect this to go the "dollar 13 billion ,128 aircraft" way. Raise it high and then buy low. In simple terminology "bait and switch".;)

At the risk of repeating a cliche, E2D would really be a game changer as far as Shipborne Air surveillance is concerned and i suppose there isn't a peer for this machine in the region.

.
Well just build an improved INS VIKRANT for the moment. So that by 2021-22 we have 3 ACs.

INS Vishal will take time. No need to hurry.

thing is owt of three indian ACs in past two were british so we know how their tech works but russians will not make the cut as EMALS & E2D/E is what indian navy wants and russians dont have it and as for neuclear reactor tech even US has an upperhand on it but remains to be seen will they share it if not then its british all the way

Well :D
I guess like all other arms of defence forces, navy too would be itching to get its hands on some really cutting edge hardware. considering that most of their ships being manufactured domestically, the flying hardware is the one of the few things, they need to source from abroad. Given how US has fulfilled its commitments on P8i, they may want to try some more of US origin items.
We often look US with suspicion that they may ditch us crippling the capabilities, but if we analyze, the 2 most likely scenarios for US congress to impose such sanctions would be a. Overthrowing Democracy by some dictator (not possible) and b. Another N test (after 123 agreement, this also seems next to impossible). So situation is as good (or as bad) as it is with Russia (with a bad habit of jacking up prices) and France (With Frenchmen trying to converse in Hindi and Indians in French, obviously something gets lost in defence talks :p:). Summary: why not try US hardware, if it is available.

and thats what is latest mood in IN and they want EMALS, E2D/E and F35(but onli if price is right) and if soemhow americans get the cake we might see a new love affair with IAF also :D

SSNs will take time to develop, and they already have a parallel project running on the same. It is not that not inducting this aircraft carrier will expedite that process.

I wasn't just talking about SSNs
I was talking in general.
An aircraft carrier does not just include a Carrier but a carrier Air wing as well as escorts, which together can cost upwards of 10 Billion USD
Everyone knows that Tejas will never meet present day requirements
IAF requires far more than 270 Su30MKI and 36 Rafales to meet its requirements
Tejas can replace the 250 odd Tier 3 aircrafts like the Mig21Bisons and Mig27s
But we also have 220 Tier 2 aircrafts like Mig29Smt, Mirage 2000 and Jaguars that are supposed to retire in 2022-30
36 Rafales will simply not do.

We will need to induct either 80 more Su30MKI to replace 2 Jaguar Sqds and 2 Mig27 sqds, which will cost 5 Billion USD
