JF-17 Thunder Multirole Fighter [Thread 7]

JF-17A in full after burner before takeoff at dusk. PAF has a well established maintenance setup for the RD-93 engines with reliable logistical line. PAF is maintaining these engines with utmost professionalism and achieving very reliable results.

One of the earliest JF-17 from Initial Small Batch Production Aircraft Most Block-I.
Thunders have already undergone the scheduled first overhaul cycle at PAC Kamra which indicates the extensive flying these jets are being exposed to while achieving demanding serviceability rates...

Black Panther JF-17 taxies out to runway for takeoff on a foggy morning.

JF-17 due to its advanced navigation systems and avionics can carry out operations in all kinds of challenging weather conditions.

If Thunders were flying with experimental AESA in 2019, can we safely speculate that over half of the operational Thunders today have converted to AESA already?? 🤔
Why would you think that to be a safe 'speculation'? Block 3 has plenty of changes in systems and structure. I would speculate if it is worth converting older Thunders to AESA, and would certainly not take it for granted that Blk1 and 2 or 2 seat Thunders have been refitted with AESA.

Is there a designation change for Block 1s, that have been 'upgraded' to block 2 standard? Like the F-16s are called 'AMs' or 'BMs' after receiving mid-life upgrade...

It's like boasting about how your kid is thinking about a second Masters degree, while their kid has to repeat Class 10 again this year. You know the Samosa Mk1 was supposed to become the Radiant Samosa MK1A last year, but 'delayed' (failed) again.

Hi,

Our cost of producing JF 17 aircraft is very very low and so is re-furbishing it as well.

So---the aircrafts that will begetting the aesa---would be new or like new---.

Aesa is a major major upgrade---you just cannot add it to older aircraft without first re-furbishing the.

Well, if these AESA equipped Thunders were mature enough to be sent into combat on Feb 27., then some kind of fleet wide AESA upgrade is logical to have kicked off soon. And it is the only kind of upgrade that makes sense for older Thunder airframes. Rather than upgrading the structure or other avionics, replacing PD with AESA of 100+ aircraft, which form the backbone of the fleet, would give us the baseline edge for the future. As for block 3, it was delayed to incorporate specific features to counter Rafales so it is a completely different monster...

Sir,

When we re-furbish---upgrade---we are not looking for baseline edge---rather total annihilation of the opponents to the best of our abilities and capabilities---. We may not achieve that---but it is not for the loss of effort---.
