JF-17 Thunder Multirole Fighter [Thread 7]

The prob with the armament of thunder that has been pointed out again n again is its primaey gun which is placed at an 8 degree angle facing down wards....which is more suited for air to ground then air to air plus the pl5 has been reported to take longer for its seeker to aquire the target after the ac has locked on to it....hence by the time it aquires the target the other ac might have broken the lock.

Now if that is the case then in an air to air fight jf 17 has no gun n a practically useless short range aam.

That is a big claim. I dont believe as this would mean jf17 will have lose chance in AA fight at 50 to even 100%.

If it ever comes to guns then definitely jf 17 will be at a huge disadvantage for reasons mentioned above.

Now the pl 5 n all these claims could be true for the older gen of the aam.
I dont know how good the latest variant is n for that matter no one knows as its yet to be used in anger.
Wt the jf 17 requires a true high off bore aam somthing along the lines of aim 9x , for the jf 17 to maximize its capabilities

Jf17 also has pl5EII variant and PL9 Missile how are those in comparison ?

This issue you are saying is found in game DCS. Not in real life and that case is discussed in forums as cage issue even after removing cage the issue persists only in jf17 model of the game. This claim is based on DCS games. So I dont think its true.

You've been watching too many DCS videos on YouTube. The PL5 issue is a software bug in the game. The reports of the gun angle optimised for ground attack have only been on DCS, I've yet to see any official sources for it. The JF-17 in DCS is going to be an approximation, based on publicly available sources, and the gaps filled in by guess work by the developers. When the module first appeared in DCS, the SD-10s appeared to be performing way beyond real life specs and had to be changed.
