on a side note. Induction of 3rd squadron of JF-17 is once again delayed to early next year. It's becoming irritating now why it is being delayed again and again our pilots are not that incompetent that they would take such time to handle JF-17. Comparing induction of first two squadrons and now the 3rd squadron, question arises is there any other factor involved beside the training thing which is causing delay.

Plus block-2 production pushed from July/August 2012 to 2013. Finances are causing great deal of trouble to PAF

^^^^ Thankyou...
Janes defence were wrong, and were comparing it to an air breathing missile which this isnt, and thats why such high speed.

You are welcome , mate ...

Do you have paid subscription by any chance ? No , its not ramjet / scramjet as far as I understand but still the hypersonic terminal speed makes it a game changer ! 5.5 Mach thats got to be something ... Chinese AsHM DF 21 D is 10 Mach for the same ...

I cant understand how are they buying and inducting these expensive missiles then !

Yes, and they don't tend to go up in flames....like the NANO. :)

You know what's funny (apart from your lack of comprehension of sarcasm ;) ).... ?? Pakistanis jumping around telling Indians how a chinese missile is better than brahmos when Pakistan has not been able to develop either ;)

Its the engine issue.. PAF does not want the next squad to be powered by RD 93 and a replacement is not yet ready..

www.defence.pk/forums/chinese-defence/17217-sy-400-guided-rocket-system.html

The missile is a variant of SY-400 Missile.
If you look at the specs and pictures of SY-400,all will start making sense to you.

The missiles range has been sacrificed by rwducing fuel and hencw weight, probably for cramming in more electronics and for making it suitable for JF-17.

SY-400 has a confirmed sustained speed of mach 4, and probably terminal phase velocity higher than that..
For that reason i have no doubt in any specs mentioned here for this variant fot jf 17.
Mind you, unlike Brahmos its not 'all the way powered' missile.
It looks like flying a 'trajectory'.
That means it will be powered initially, then first stage falls off,and missile flies unpowered following a parabolic path, and then before arriving at the target, rocket motor fires up for directional control and manoevarability, and the missile adjusts itself to hit the target and takes a nose dive, gaining momentum all the way to mach 5.5 before hitting the target.

ok now its clear, it is not a true cruise missile but a old gen tech which soviets and Americans retired..nothing extraordinary about it.

JF-17 Project direcotr AVM Javaid Ahmad in kanwa magazine said Block 2 will be rolled out in 2012

Last year in dubai airshow, PAF TIMELINE showed Block-2 will come in July/August 2012.

So logically what caused the delay?

Its the engine issue.. PAF does not want the next squad to be powered by RD 93 and a replacement is not yet ready..

WS-13 is still one or two years away. RD-93 is the only option we are left with.

So logically what caused the delay?

It wasn't sarcasm ... I am sure its the finance but still aren't they inducting these newer missiles ? It makes no sense whatsoever ...

PAF and their way of dealing businesses !

Source for this claim?

Care to explain that old generation technology you are referring to ? Or to put it simply is it " the same argument that your lot uses about every single Chinese defense equipment to calm down and go back into denial mode , either this or to declare it reverse engineered " ? :azn:

PAF and their way of dealing businesses !

Strange and ambiguous !

The delay was caused by the Third Squadron of JF-17.
You cannot expect to roll out Block-2 and and latter on induct the Block-1s in their Squadron, this shows lack of proper planning and poor efficiency. Block-2 is now re-scheduled to be rolled-out by February 2013 (Hopefully).

When will the thunder make a century in numbers oprational it would be great mile stone for Thunder

blah! blah! blah! - pl try to make some sense.

Mr Fatman , please you make sense and please provide link,

A) you are saying that Chinese poster didn't mentioned the main feature of the missile i.e. speed?

B) Chinese says is 5+ Mach and PAK officer says is 4+ Mach, means their is deviation , either one of them don't know it? or miscommunication happened over speed?

C) Proof then Claim.
