Is that the front part of the engine?

Let us hope that we see a 2 seater version of Thunder next year. China was not interested in a 2 seat FC-1 but Pakistan is paying the R&D costs to develop the 2 seater jf-17.

PAF has already decided to develop the 2 seat Thunder and work is underway. Pakistan wants to use this version not only for training purpose but also as a dedicated attack version. Hopefully we should start hearing more in 2011 ''

some more info--by

Chinese have this year marketed another version of KLJ radar for JF-17 which might find its way in 2nd block JF-17s
J-10Bs radar will be Chinese and western subsystems will enable it to communicate with Erieye and Chinese AWACS
PAF already have an established middleware in the form of C4I system

Hi,

Actually pakistan should atleast look for 50 upto a 100 two seater versions of the JF 17's---that willmake things very interesting.

.
a dual seeter means that a newer engine is closer than we have thought?

what about the rafale that has crashed in pak waters, can we send the pieces to china?

But what would be the benefits of creating a two seater other than we can use it as a trainer + attack AC.

What other benefits can a two seat version give ?? It can be used as a training aircraft for pilots to convert to JF-17s easily, plus it can be used as a dedicated attack version, plus in SEAD/DEAD role too, as it can carry more of the jamming pods and equipment. They can be very ideal for carrying out long range precision munitions, since the pilot would be busy in flying the thing, while the WSO officer can safely guide the munition to its target by being far away from the target. Taking the example of H-2, it has a reported range of 60KM, but the missile can be controlled and guided from 100KM+ away range, thus the aircraft goes in, reaches near 60Km from target mark, release the weapon, turn back and make a dash for safety, while the WSO guides the weapon.

So, the major plus points for dual seat version is ease in training of pilots & WSOs, as well as a fighter which can would be used as a dedicated attack fighter or for SEAD missions.

Hi,

Thanks Tk---members---please don't take the two seater as a trainer---.

If we get it---the two seater is going to be the main stay---a true dedicated attack version.

Currently---the aircraft electronics systems are so advanced that maybe---possibly most of the aircraft must be made two seaters---the electronic warfare packages---the air to air missile systems---outgoing weapons---incoming missiles---there is so much more for a pilot to do.

It is better to have a flyer and a dedicated weapons officer.

.
Hi, also please recall that the Brazilian MAR-1 Anti-Radiation air-to-surface missiles that Pakistan bought are to be integrated into the JF-17. Thus, having a 2-seat JF-17 can also allow for the plane to have SEAD and anti-radar attack capabilities. Take care.

yup! twin seater birds are more capable for A2G purposes then single seat versions. Such as F-16i Sufa & F-15E.

Not exactly..not as a thumb rule anyway..
Having two heads is better than one...that is something that is considered a lot..however..having two lives on the line is when one can get the job done equally good is just wastage.
The Requirement of the JF and its possible missions does not entail a long mission time..where pilot fatigue can come into play.. Also..with improved pilot interfaces..sensor fusion..the modern computer can do all that a guy in the back could do..
the new sphere of WVR..the slash and dash.. you probably dont need somebody looking at your back anymore..if they had you its quite likely they are screaming about the missile coming to impact you.
Take the F-15E.. its a great jet..
Long range strike.. all weather..but.. (I suppose there is a member here who can comment best on that)..its needs attention to fly in weather..in such conditions..for a strike mission..its great having a guy in the back doing all the targeting....
dont get me wrong.. I am all for two heads..but they aren't always better than one..
An aircraft such as the Su-30 series..the two seater has lots of jobs..
on route he can be a mini atc.. keeping check on formation..he can target the bandits at BVR...micromanage a dogfight..or enjoy pringles while the pilot sweats..
Yet.. are these really needed for the job req of the Thunder?
The interface of the JF ensures that the pilot has all the info needed to make the best decision he has to whenever he has to.
Simulator's too.. have reached a level where they can simulate a the jet exactly except the acceleration.hence the two seaters arent a priority anymore..
SEAD no longer requires a backseater either..since most modern RWR's can pinpoint the location of an emitter very accurately..and provide targeting cues to an ARM..all the pilot has to do is wait for the launch parameters to be met.
All the next gen platforms..are skipping the twin seaters for their multirole versions..the F-35..the Raptor..
all that is possible via sensor fusion and excellent interface.

Our primary strike needs are being met by the F-16 force for the next 10 years....which come in both flavors.. the JF's have a secondary strike capability.

we are looking to make JFT the main stay of PAF.
this will eventually mean inclusion in all three, air to air, land attack and even maritime strike roles.
here in Naval duties and land attack roles is where the two seater comes in handy.

yes it will help new pilots and there induction to JFT fleet, but, this will be only one of the plus points that you can have with a dual seat version!

regards!
