PAF is bit worried about the engine .. 1st issue is of smoke . and second is of thrust ... as rd-93b turbofan has 10 % more thrust than rd-93a that is currently used

smoke prob is there with rd-33 series and PAC is working on it and after 1st 42-50 there will be change in engin.. either upgraded rd-93b or ws-13 or ej-200 or most probably m-53-p2 but these are all predictions yet.........

There will be no engine upgrade until 100 numbers . The already contract is for 100 engines and they are in pipeline. Here is a link http://www.defence.pk/forums/military-aviation/44140-40-rd-93-engines-supplied-china-2010-a.html that shows the remaining 43 will be delivered by last of this year.

but according to some information negoiciation for rd-93 are going on .. so after 1st 42-50 there may be rd-93b

According to various sources Russia is upgrading this engine to incorporate Thrust Vectoring to possibly compete against the WS chinese engine and possible other french and western engine because they know there are approximately 800 jf-17 has to be build for PAF and export purpose and if they will win the contract there will b sale of round about 900 engines in the pipeline..Money is everythng my frnd u Everyone wants money thats why frsnch are also offering their latest weaponary coz if deal is stuck there will not b just few but hundreds of weapons and avionics which can also be exported in jf17 export versions acording to buyers need:azn:

Thrust vector is already added on RD-33 series, its nothing new. We intentionally never went for Thrust vectored version initially as it is not safe to fit TVC equipped engine on a new, single engined aircraft. The RD-series has a mediocre MTBO and thrust vectoring nozzles add cost, maintenance and reduce overall engine performance. JF-17 is already very agile and does not need TVC as of now. It needs more thrust and a better TWR

hmmm..... rd-93 has thrust after burner of 85 kn...... engine with 100+ will be ideal.. cos at that time jf-17 has twr of .99 when with internal fuel only ... by reducing weight through use of composite material and using engine with greater thrust will really boost up the performance ....

All that you said is a part of future plan and will occur gradually. Chinese WS-13 has put Russians under pressure and they are now willing to even give the improved RD-93 version with 90+kt thrust, WS-13 is likely to be in service before 2013-14 as far as i know. The mach number is not disclosed and the current publicized figure is 1.8, after re-configuring the intakes to DSI. M 1.6 was for the old intakes which were deemed insufficient in allowing enough air to engine at certain angles and reducing aircraft maneuverability, increasing smoke and overall aircraft performance.

brother its not the matter of hurting or minding some thing .... just come to facts and also see the difference in prices j-10 40 million dollar and jf-17 15 million ..... look at that factor too .... more money more honey ... Pakistan was looking for an aircraft that would be cheap and capable .. jf-17 was right answer ... very simple now it depends upon other countries and their defence budgets ...

JF17 is far too cheaper than J10 and it was introduced 3 years ago and not even an order of FC1 .the can use it to replace old chengdu J7 aircraft but they didn't place any order

Well would you like to read the other posts for the possible reasons that why they haven't yet placed an order.

There is no confirm official news that PLAAF is not going to order the FC-1.

As said many times, let a Chinese engine come up, then make this assumption confirm, not yet.

By the way, Pt-06 of FC-1 with Full Chinese Avionics is being flown and tested in China, which may give you some hint, to the WHY.

i thnk thrust vectoring would b a gud thng to incorporate as it helsp in in improving manouverability at various angles of attackk

The PLAAF is ordered to procure 150 FC-1 by the higher up. The current FC-1 doesn't meet PLAAF's requirements and is still undergoing testing for its Chinese version.
