Japan's best strategy to defeat China at sea

We are developing our abilities the Japanese way. Less talk, more action. :)

Yeah, more action is needed, but I don't see you can pop up with 50% of the current USN by 2020.

Since the post-WWII constitution hasn't been changed yet, and China is not going to wait you until you have fully amended your constitution.

Even with the USN, the US will think twice of engaging into a naval warfare close to the vicinity of China's turf.

.
Lol, I think you are belittling the PLAN too much.

The Beiyang fleet wasn't even all that powerful. Compared to the world in 1895, it was ranked 8 or 9 in tonnage (UK, Germany, USA, Russia, France, Italy, Japan, (Austria?) China), and it's ships weren't as modern, their flagships were already 10 years old in an era where by 1906 (dreadnaught), all battleships will go obsolete.

The current PLAN (Beiyang #2) is ranked 2 in terms of tonnage. I think it is a much more respectable power.

I have a lot of respect for the PLAN, I'm just pulling CT's leg since he is very reactive , lol.

Yes, Sir. The great and almighty PLAN is to be feared. :)

Even by quality, we can easily overwhelm Japan.

1. Japan has no air superiority, since their current air force is made by a group of aging F-15J, and the F-35 still needs a very long period to become operational. Without the air superiority, it will be questionable if they can takeoff their anti-sub planes.

2. Japan has extremely weak sub fleet compared to any P5 nations. Without the nuclear subs, they cannot track down their opponent's subs in a long period. And they have only 7 Soryu subs with the Stirling AIP. However, China has already started with the fuel cell AIP.

3. Their Aegis vessels are also very limited with only 6 active ships, and 8 by 2020. And their Aegis warships cannot fire those long range AS missiles because of the constitution.

Yes, Sir. The great and almighty PLAN is to be feared. :)

The PLAN hasn't even showed any fear before the mighty USN, and why you think we have to fear yours?

And back in 1995-1996, the PLAN wasn't even 1/10 of the current one, yet we made our standoff against the 7th fleet of the USN.

I didn't want to bring it up, but since you repeated this comment, you beat one fleet of China with the entire Japanese fleet.

Do you understand what Beiyang means? Since you like to use other languages so much.

No, the Imperial Japanese navy was not sent en masse to deal with Admiral Ding's fleet. The Western Fleet of the Imperial Navy was sent.

All your posts are dismissive, lol.

Bias much?

The era of the Imperial Navy is over, now it is all about the JMSDF.

Since you keep saying that your nation is fully democratic, and those right-wing groups don't represent your country.

Yet why you keep glorifying the undemocratic Imperial Navy here?

My post is more Think Tank than yours.

Combined fleet, maybe you like to say Japan only sent a tug boat against us, wouldn't that make the victory more glorious.

Either way, you linking current situation to first Sino Japanese war, is well, like the Vietnamese, living past glories.

Though I guess the empires that the sun has set, wouldn't really have anything better to do now, would you.

You kidding right? Japan's airforce is very large. In terms of Modern 4th gen+ fighters, it is at least as big as China. China only has a larger air force because China never retires its Mig-21's and other cold war relics.

The Soryu sub is considered one of the best in the world. Nuclear sub is for power projections, in terms of defending Japanese waters, the Soryu is actually superior to nuclear subs because they are much more silent.

Japan ageis destroyers are 10 tons, China's 052d is 7 tons.
Japan has other destroyers like Akizuki, also 6-7 tons with 32 VLS, comparable to China's 052c/d.

- All they have is F-15J, it is even questionable if it can beat the early model of J-11.

Mitsubishi F-15J - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

China has more than 150 J-11B with the modern AESA radar and the new domestic engine.

- Soryu is freaking overrated. Not mentioning that they are a joke in front of the modern nuclear subs, and China's latest AIP subs are now fuel cell, not the 1990s Stirling.

- The Type 052D is slightly smaller, but it equips with the much more powerful AESA radars and the versatile VLS, and it is going to sink the Atago/Kongo with the more powerful AS missiles before the Japanese vessels can even discover it.

JMSDF is the legacy of the Imperial Navy.

Less that 15 ships took part in the engagement , it was not the combined fleet but a cruiser contingent of the Western Fleet of the Imperial Navy.

Sending the entire Imperial Navy would have been a wee bit overkill , lol.

Then you in fact took the legacy of the fascist, not from the post-WWII democratic order set by the US.

The Imperial Navy is the legacy of the Meiji Emperor, to the Glory of Japan in the late 19th century . Years before "fascism". Please review history.

Same thing, since your aggressive militarist doctrine has been your mainstream doctrine during the era of the Meiji Emperor.

Your Meiji Emperor has planned to invade Korea and trigger a war against China.

So what is the difference between this and the fascism?

Modernization was the cornerstone of the national plan during the reign of His Imperial Majesty, the Meiji Emperor. Under his visage, Japan transformed from a feudal state to the first industrialized , independent power in Asia-Pacific. In less than 30 years.

Japan was a Parliamentary , representative democracy, constitutional monarchy with Japanese characteristics . Much similar to Japan of the present.
