Japan's best strategy to defeat China at sea

In theory, China should have had the firepower advantage, but in reality, the ships ammunition were old and didn't work. The chinese navy didnt train enough and didn't even maintain their ships.

I think PLAN won't make that mistake again. Their ships will be maintained this time.

I agree, but the Chinese have no record in defeating us in naval combat in 130 years. They never were a naval threat to us. Not compared to Russia and America.

By the time that the JMSDF has finished modernizing their fleet, they are going to face a PLAN with 30+ Aegis warships and 30+ nuclear subs, perhaps with an additional of 3 carrier battlegroups.

This comment just showed how ignorant you are, any person who truely understand a bit of chinese history knows how much china has lost by wasting ressources into the summer palace instead of a few "old battleship which would be useless by now".

Think of it this way, they are a lasting cultural legacy! Their worth is more than some old ironclad ! :)

Beiyang Fleet #2 !

Sugoi!!!

Russia has not defeated you in a naval warfare for more than 100 years, but do you think they are no threat?

LMAO, I really hope all your leaders share the same thought as yours, since you guys are making a fatal mistake by treating a growing tiger like PRC as a little pussy cat.

It is useless to bring Beiyang fleet all the time, just like the Viet members always boast how they have 'defeated' the US back in the 1970s.

The Beiyang fleet was made by the foreign weapons, while the Qing Dynasty can't even manage to maintain it, let alone to build it by their own.

So it is pretty much idiotic and childish to compare it with PLAN.

We crushed the Russian Baltic Fleet, they were eviscerated like what we did to Beiyang Fleet a decade prior. But we respected them since they fought honorably to the death , and Russians went down with their ships.

We respect Admiral Ding of the Beiyang Fleet because he fought gallantly and died with honor . He has been considered as a tragic hero in Japaneae naval history.

But today, both Russia and China can crush JMSDF in a naval battle.

Without the USN, you have no chance to win.

World has changed a lot in 130 years.

China was too poor to really challenge Japan before, but now as the world's 2nd largest economy, 2nd largest military expenditure, and a competent technological base, I think Japan will slowly see PLAN as a worthy rival (not as a threat because seriously, no Chinese leader will fight Japan, their largest trading partner, and home to 1 million Chinese).

The article it self states that right now (2015) Japan is still technologically ahead of China, and in terms of naval strength, I'd say quite even (as in a war can go either way). Might not be the same in 2025.

Why would we war with Russia? Their Pacific Fleet is not even equivalent to the JMSDF's 4th Escort Fleet . :)

As for PLAN. We wish your side the best. :)

Russia Baltic fleet had to travel around the world to fight a numerically superior fleet.

I don't think Russia was a true naval threat to Japan, except in Soviet era with their 300 submarine navy.

I think you should say that the JMSDF should realize the fact that the PLAN can crush them handily.

What is so special about the JMSDF? Do they have any world top notch supercarrier or nuclear sub?

Their Aegis warships were all made by the US technology, and it is also severely watered down because of the constitution.

The combines might of JMSDF and USN can overcome any threat in this world.

That said , cheers to the global Japanese-US Alliance !

just as ignorant but at least not unexpected, that "lasting cultural legacy" is the reminder of one of the greatest treason and stupidity in human history ever commited by a ruler, even if the chance for redemption might be improved by 1 to million by doing what should have been done, and even if the outcome in battles stayed the same, at least they have tried their best (as should be), instead of throwing last bit of pride and faith of a whole civilization into the wind.

LOLMAO.
Your fellows ((and you ??)) always boast how you have "defeated" the US in the 50's !

The time has changed, yet you haven't seen me boasting about the outcome of the Korean War.

BTW, the modern warfare is all about the quantity and the quality.

China can easily achieve the quantity matter, and we only need to improve our quality comparing to the US.

lol

This is a fact.

Without the supercarrier and the nuclear subs, your navy cannot be considered as true blue water navy in the modern standard.

Beiyang Fleet # 2 tho! Such awesome firepower !

;) ;)

With such repetitive childish comments, are you still worthy of keeping your Think Tank title?

A true Think Tank shouldn't keep repeating like a 6 years old.

Lol, I think you are belittling the PLAN too much.

The Beiyang fleet wasn't even all that powerful. Compared to the world in 1895, it was ranked 8 or 9 in tonnage (UK, Germany, USA, Russia, France, Italy, Japan, (Austria?) China), and it's ships weren't as modern, their flagships were already 10 years old in an era where by 1906 (dreadnaught), all battleships will go obsolete.

The current PLAN (Beiyang #2) is ranked 2 in terms of tonnage. I think it is a much more respectable power.
