This week Turkey and Japan will sign an intergovernmental agreement on the construction of a second nuclear power plant in Turkey, Zaman newspaper said on Tuesday.
According to the newspaper, the agreement will be signed during the visit of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to Turkey. It is reported that the construction of a second nuclear power plant at Sinop will cost $20-22 billion. The nuclear power plant in Sinop will be built by Japanese firm Mitsubishi in a consortium with the French GDF Suez. However, the project's operator will be the Japanese company.
It is planned that the nuclear power plant at Sinop will consist of four units with a total capacity of 4500-5000 megawatts.
Construction of the plant will begin in 2017 and production of electricity by 2023.
Along with Japan, Canada, China and South Korea also participated in the tender for the construction of the nuclear power plant at Sinop.
The first nuclear power plant Akkuyu in Turkey will be built in accordance with a Russian project that provides for the construction of four VVER-1200power units. The agreement on the construction of the station was signed in May 2010.
The capacity of each unit will be 1200 MW, whereas the total capacity is 4800 MW. It is assumed that the units are to be commissioned in sequence with intervals of one year.

Japan-France alliance to build Turkey's second nuke plant

May 1 (Reuters) - A Japanese-French alliance led by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. and French firm Areva will build Turkey's second nuclear power plant, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan told The Nikkei newspaper on Tuesday.

Erdogan and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will sign an agreement on the 2 trillion yen ($21 billion) Sinop project on Friday during a visit by Abe to Turkey, the Japanese daily reported.

Turkey's energy minister Taner Yildiz said on Monday that Ankara will announce by the weekend which country will construct its second nuclear power station, at a site on the Black Sea.

The new plant is seen having a capacity of around 4,500-5,000 megawatts (MW), Turkish government sources have told Reuters.

.
does anybody know the percentage that this reactor will contribute to Turkeys electrical energy consumption?

. . . . .
Sorry i confused some terms. It should be around 9-10% as 2012.

Toplam Kurulu Güç (Gross Established power) 53942 MW
Sinop : 4800 MW

Teias estimates that we will need around 100 GW of electricity production capability by 2023,
so that means the 3 nuclear plants will make up like 14-15% of electricity production by that time, not bad, but I would like as many of these energy giants as possible,
just like france.

By the way, what is known about the third one?

There are proposals to build further nuclear capacity at another site, as part of 100 GWe required by 2030. Reports suggest that TAEK has identified Igneada on the Black Sea, 12 km from the Bulgarian border, as a third nuclear power plant site. Ankara - with low seismic risk - and Tekirdag on the northwest coast of the Sea of Marmara have also been mentioned as possible sites. When agreement has been reached for the development of the Sinop plant, the energy ministry plans to announce the site for the third plant with an invitation for expressions of interest to be issued by the end of 2013.

.
Third plant will be constructed by China probably , i wish goverment would hurry with those deals those nuclear plants takes approximatively 6-8 years to be constructed and get online.
