As a part of an inter-governmental agreement up to 600 Turkish students will be able to attend nuclear engineering courses in Russia
World Bulletin/News Desk

More than 4000 Turkish students applied for 100 places on nuclear engineering courses in Russia, a manager at Turkey's Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant said Saturday.

After graduation the students will have a chance to work at Turkey's first power plant at Akkuyu, which a Russian company is helping to build. Turkey has already sent 190 students to Russian universities for nuclear education since 2011.

As a part of an inter-governmental agreement up to 600 Turkish students will be able to attend nuclear engineering courses in Russia and will be expected to work for the Akkuyu plant for at least 13 years after graduation.

Russian energy company Rosatom signed an agreement in 2011 to build and operate a 4-reactor nuclear power plant in Mersin province on Turkey’s Mediterranean coast, with the aim of having the plant fully-operational by the Turkish republic's 100-year anniversary in 2023.

4000 applicants only for Russia? that's a lot.
This is good news, hope these students will make Turkey's future brighter.

But I don't see Pakistan parting with sensitive nuclear technology either.

the article states that 4000 students, of which only 600 will be accepted, applied to Russian universities. Though the article said nothing about other countries, I am sure there are also Turkish students studying in other countries, maybe in Pakistan too.

I guess the Students want to go out of Turkey and study abroad or Turkish Universities with Nuclear reactors are full.

Turkey and Japan will establish a Nuclear science university together in istanbul, Russia is just a temporary solution.

You never know, maybe a different approach in this case.

I really think that Turkey and Pakistan should form an unofficial alliance to help each other.

Pakistan could really do with Turkish civilian technology to help it develop further and Turkey desperately needs nuclear weapons to build itself as a true independent power.

It will have to be semi-official as both Pakistan and Turkey would face sanctions from US/EU otherwise.

You know our relationship, how can we send 600 students to Russia and not send any to our brother country?
As you said it,unofficial must be.
