Turkey aiming for nuclear weapons ?

Lets be realistic here; 1- Turkey doesnt need Nuclear Weapons
2- Turkey wont go for Nukes unless it wants to destroy the bridges with The West
3- Once in a while we see such reports...Dont fall for it

Turkey does not need new nuclear weapons, it already has about 60 of them from the US arsenal, and it controls at least 40 of them, all 200 kt warheads, and now it needs nuclear power for its electricity needs for its citizens as well as for its growing industry, so it is better if it can get a transfer of technology from Japan for the whole nuclear cycle and master it itself. And one should know that once you master the nuclear cycle it is always more of a political decision to go for nuclear weapons or not based on the needs of the hour or for security reasons against nuclear threats.

@Sinan @BronzePlaque @T-123456 @xenon54 - Well if Turkiye does indeed decides to go for Nuclear Weapons I certainly wouldn't mind if Pakistan were to share some of the 'recipes' under the Table ! :D

As long as I get to meet Nur Fettahoglu ! :ashamed:

At any rate it would be a hell of a lot better than sharing with some of our other Muslim Brothers - two of whom ratted us out ! :disagree:

Turkish energy minister denies uranium enrichment intention

Energy Minister Taner Yıldız denied Turkey had any interest in enriching uranium through the nuclear deal with Japan, claiming a demand for uranium enrichment allowance was only aimed at learning about the nuclear fuel production process.

“We don’t have any project regarding nuclear fuel and [uranium] enrichment,” Yıldız told a group of reporters on a plane flying from Japan to Singapore on Jan. 8, Anadolu Agency reported.

“There are three or four stages regarding nuclear fuel process and being involved in any of those stages or Turkey’s desire to be involved in them should not be perceived as nuclear fuel enrichment,” he said. “Enrichment is a different matter.”

Ankara reportedly demanded allowance for uranium enrichment and plutonium extraction within the framework of a $22 billion nuclear power plant and technology export deal inked with Tokyo, a Japanese daily reported Jan. 8, quoting a Japanese Foreign Ministry official as saying.

The clause at issue allows Turkey to enrich uranium and extract plutonium, potentially creating nuclear material for weapons, according to the report.

However the Turkish Energy Minister sought to rule out those claims, saying “the text of the nuclear agreement is aimed at all transactions to be used for peaceful purposes.”

“As we don’t have any demand for uranium enrichment in Turkey, there will not be any supply,” he stressed.

He said Turkey wants to participate in some processes of nuclear fuel, but it definitely will not seek to produce fuel itself.

“We are not aiming at generation for sure. It is a pre-made decision,” he stated, underlining Turkey only wants to do something with uranium if it could be extracted from Turkey.

“We want to enter a business related to that. France can do this and we will look if we can do something with France,” Yıldız explained.

“Besides, we are members of NATO and the U.N., as well as signatory of many international treaties. We wouldn’t have such a concern,” he said.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who was in Japan Jan. 5 for a three-day visit, and his Japanese counterpart, Shinzo Abe, have signed a $22 billion deal on the nuclear plant project.
A joint venture involving Japan’s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries has won an order to construct Turkey’s second nuclear plant in the Black Sea province of Sinop.

Yıldız said Turkey has no problem with finding nuclear fuel supply, but added fuel procurement is already the responsibility of the operating company.

The minister also noted the second stage for Turkey’s second nuclear power plant have been almost completed with the signature of the intergovernmental agreement between Turkey and Japan on Oct. 29, during Abe’s Istanbul visit.

“Now there is the signature of implementation agreements with companies ahead. We believe we will be able to finish this process by the sixth month of the year, because the states are left out of the way and private companies like Mitsubishi step in,” he stated.

ENERGY - Turkish energy minister denies uranium enrichment intention

I just want the first nuclear power plant built very soon. It's great with all these plans and such, but given the graft scandal atm. it's very important that we construct and finish projects that will ensure at least some kind of relief on the energy front.

All the airports constructed atm. thanks to AKP are probably not even economic viable. Why would we need 50+ civilian airports in Turkey. They have one in Gazipasa and that place is pretty close to Alanya...

Previously, You were so into Hazal Kaya. But it seems that your opinion changed about her when one of our turkish friends , it was @xenon54 I guess, posted a photo of her smoking cigarettes.:lol::lol:
My friend, As I told you before, you are getting strange these days, from getting socialist to showing some signs of (being or hating) gays, and not mentioning Hazal Kaya's name anymore. I am so worried about you, my dear friend. ;)

Diversifying energy resources is a very important key point in insuring energy providing security.

sinan the thread to open was the worst thing you can do. firstly you will now observed in next few days by various intelligence agencies, because you need to know that defense sides are be observed by NSA etc..... thats not a game

This is silly Iranian propaganda to use Turkey as a cover and turn it into a target instead of themselves.

Turkey is not aiming for nuclear weapons period.

I think all of these plans can be very good in the long term. Turkey can reach West European living standards such as GDP per capita, ... in the next 15-20 years. at that time, by following these plans, you would have all the means and power and technology to decide to go for making nukes or not. In that condition, West won't be able to oppose Turkey. Another scenario is having a policy like Japan. Japan can make nukes in 48 hours, but they don't do it for obvious reasons, so, they maintain their ability for producing nukes in the case of special events.

i have to disagree with you my friend. japan has huge capacity in uranium enrichment, for nearly 40% of its energy need is obtained from 54 nuclear stations. but that doesn't necessarily mean that japan can make nuclear weapons in 48 hours. in nuclear weapons the main difficulty is not obtaining HEU (high enriched uranium, in which u235 percentage is 90%) but coming up with reliable weapon design. it's believed that if need arises, japan can produce nuclear weapon within several months.
and on topic in general, enriching uranium doesn't mean going nuclear. LEU (low enriched uranium) in nuclear power stations contains u235 between 3 and 5 %. no need to make fuss i think. without enrichment facilities turkey'd be dependent on foreign states to sell her LEU. and that means leverage. IMO, energy minister just tries to be politically correct and not anger west. with all that "independent turkey in all areas" rhetoric, i'd expect the same on this subject, as a matter of fact.

Turkey doesn't want to produce nuclear weapons.. They want tech to develop it if they want it in a very short time.

The focus is on Iran at the moment and the whole region including Turkey doesn't want Iran to have nukes. It would be kind of strange for Turkey to openly produce one while Iran is getting spanked for wanting one.

Probably when Iran war is over and they are neutralized Turkey might want to produce one in 2030 when I predict NATO and EU will be dissolved by then. When EU is gone, NATO is gone. Some say, Turkey already has NATO nukes. NATO won't exist forever. It is not good to relly on them. NATO promised Georgia protection but as we know at the end they were at their own.

Nuclear countries never get attacked. There is a good reason for that. If Turkey gets wealthy and influential it will also gain a lot of enemies. Every major economic power also has nukes and big army to protect themselves,
