TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran's President Hassan Rouhani and his counterparts from Tajikistan and Afghanistan in a meeting in Kabul on Thursday discussed ways to expand all-out ties among the three Persian-language-speaking nations.

President Rouhani and his Tajik and Afghan counterparts, Emomali Rahmon and Hamid Karzai, respectively, held a trilateral meeting on the sideline of the Nowruz celebration which is currently underway in the Afghan capital of Kabul.

Emphasizing necessity of reinforcing Persian language, the three presidents called for expansion of trilateral cooperation aimed at safeguarding tranquility in the region.

President Rouhani arrived in the Afghan capital on Thursday morning to attend Nowruz festival.

Upon arrival, President Rouhani was warmly welcomed by Afghan Vice-President Mohammad Karim Khalili.

President Rouhani is accompanied by Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif, Vice-President Massoud Soltanifar and his cultural advisor Hessameddin Ashena in his visit to Afghanistan.

Nowruz, which coincides with the first day of spring on the solar calendar, is mostly celebrated in Iran, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, Armenia, Iraqi Kurdistan and Uzbekistan.

The International Day of Nowruz was registered on the UNESCO List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity on February 23, 2010.

For Iranians, Nowruz is a celebration of renewal and change, a time to visit relatives and friends, and pay respect to senior family members.

Iranians welcome the New Year by wearing new clothes and setting the Haft Seen, a table containing seven items starting with the letter 'S'; Sabzeh (freshly grown greens), Samanu (sweet wheat paste), Senjed (jujube), Seeb (apple), Seer (garlic), Serkeh (vinegar) and Somaq (sumac).

What was our president doing there?
Good question. Pakistan has nothing to do with Nowruz or Persian civilization so i dont know why Hamid Karzai invited some Pakistanis to attend. Probably he was just being polite because you are their neighbour. Either that, or because he had a separate meeting with the Pakistanis from the one he had with Iranian and Tajik officials.
