Iran Kowsar Jet Surprise (production line)

Do we even have enough pilots? I would like to see a reversed engineered F14 rather than a F5 trainer. I think it will be a flying death trap if ever used

You have to learn how to walk before you can run. For a country that is just developing an aircraft industry, they need to start with a simple aircraft first and then build on that experience to build more complex aircraft. For the IRIAF choosing to base the production line of the Kowsar on a two seat F-5F means that a big requirement for the IRIAF was for an advanced jet trainer to be able to train new pilots and in this role the Kowsar is even more valuable than just a CAS fighter for the IRIAF. One of the most important things that Iran's defence minister said about the Kowsar was that it allowed It allows Iranian pilots to Fly much higher hours per year to be able to develop proficiency as pilots because there is no spare parts shortages with a domestic aircraft. Hopefully the Kowsar is just the start and Iran will be able to develop future types of Aircraft for all her needs. I hope to see the new indigenous 4th Generation avionics to be utilized for upgrading Iran's Fleets of F-4s,F-14s,Mig-29s,Su-24s and Mirage F-1s as well.

Doubt it has anything to do with f18 .

Its not like f18 need that much power to reach the speed and f5 don't need it . the problem is that the speed and increase in power don't have linear relation and also the external payload is different And also don't forget f18 is more than twice heavier and can carry a lot more.
LERX of thunder is inspired from f18 ...

It doesn't change anything.... I was simply explaining the design characteristics of the F-5 Airframe not it's overall capability.....

In terms of design the F-5 Airframe is an extraordinary overall design! People keep asking why didn't they change the design and the fact is there is nothing wrong with the design! And until Iran builds a militarily sound powerplant with far greater thrust that can carry a greater number of weapons then militarily there is no reason to make any major changes in design.

As for small changes sure they could of made small changes like changing the back design of the Tailron and stabilizer... but those are mostly cosmetic changes and militarily these is a good reason why you wouldn't want your enemy to be able to distinguish between an F-5E and a Kowsar when their radars are off which is a far more practical reason than cosmetic changes...

But anything major like putting the wing on top of the Air intakes would of required Iran to build much heavier landing gears....
or
Adding an additional stabilizer would of increased drag, weight & weight balance that would have no doubt effected it's speed and that added weight would also effect your payload capacity which F-5's are already short on due to their weak engines....

they also are present in F-16

F5 airframe is inspired from 3rd generation where speed was the key therefore airframes were sleek light weight less nimble but aircraft of 4th generation are nimble designed for dog fight, tight turns and quick accelerations...

F5 airframe is not suitable for dog fights

With BVR and stand off missiles, dog fighting is a thing of the past.

Plus F-5 is once again a CAS trainer aircraft not an air superiority fighter.

Just like A-10s, SU-25’s, Yak-130s are not made for dog fighting.

Thats a myth ... success rate of bvr are not always correct so dog fighting will still be applied furthermore even in case of bvr your aircraft needs to be nimble to do a variety of task ... and i agree that f5 airframe is not very impressive therefore it is not something really advance ...

Wrong F-5 Airframe is extremely manurable! What's not suited for dog fights on the F-5 was it's radar capability!!!! And lack of speed compared to the F-14 & F-15

Even the F-20 was more maneuverable then the F-16! So yea it's design was meant for high maneuverability!

That clown Babak Taghvaee has once again completely discredited himself as an "expert" in Iranian military affairs. When the Kowsar was first unveiled in August he tweeted that the real aircraft that was supposed to have been unveiled was the Kosar 88 but that plain was not ready in time so the IRIAF decided to save face by installing its new glass cockpit on to a F-5F and passing it off as a new 100% Iranian jet fighter. He has so much egg on his face now that to this date he still has not tweeted anything about the Kowsar production line. Some expert!!! Speaking of "experts" where is that little boy and his watermelon to tell as that this whole Kowsar thing is all "Mullah" trickery?
Please! Why would you even think of asking for him?

well , I don't think you want to do a supersonic dogfight , and if its dog fight you want , the AN/APQ-153 or AN/APQ-159 radar on F5 was good enough (well it could not match 145km of
AN/APG-67 of F-20) if the ground control would have told them were to go . I put f-5 problem on is engines , they just can't provide enough power.

Dog fights are illegal in most countries in the world.... considered as animal cruelty. We should stop talking about it before the internet police turns up.

If the new radar used on the Kowsar indeed has a range of 80-100km against fighter sized targets then Iran needs to develop a new Medium range air to air missile( compact enough to mount at least 2 on Kowsar ) to exploit its radar's BVR capability.
