Iran in drive to encourage couples to have more children
Iran has launched a house-to-house health education drive to persuade couples to have more children in a move aimed at engineering a baby boom and more than doubling its population.

The health ministry is deploying some 150,000 officers to promote the benefits of marriage and urge single-child couples to expand their families.
Medical faculties in the country's universities have also been instructed to introduce courses on increasing the population, which will be closely monitored by health ministry officials.
The initiative reverses a 20-year state-sanctioned birth control policy that afforded easy access to a range of contraceptive measures including vasectomies and condoms and provided statutory family-planning to newly-weds.
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran's supreme leader, ordered the abolition of the £10 billion family planning budget last year after labelling the policy a mistake and calling for the country's population currently around 75 million to rise to 150 million.
Mohammad Ismail Motlagh, general manager of the health ministry's family, school health and population programme, said the main goal was to encourage couples to avoid producing single-child families, which he said was leading to "social and emotional problems".
"In the marriage training course, we have focused more on the child-producing because the single-child issue has caused so many problems and provoked much debate," he told the semi-official Fars news agency.
"For this reason, I am suggesting that families should have more than one child and reduce the gaps in pregnancy to only two years. If the pregnancy gaps exceed two years, couples should revise their methods and make plans in this regard."
Iran originally introduced family planning following a population explosion in the wake of the 1979 Islamic revolution. The programme has been criticised by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who has said it weakened the country ability to compete with the West.

Unfortunately this idea has come from the mind of shia leaders in Iran as they think the population growth of shias should increase in order not to get behind from Sunnis .
What the Fvck ?
please NO , NO , NO O NO NO
Iranians made this mistake after the revolution and our youth paying it's price now . we've already have the problem of unemployment , poverty and countless other problems that are the reasons of doubling our population by imam Khomeini's order .
Unfortunately this idea has come from the mind of shia leaders in Iran as they think the population growth of shias should increase in order not to get behind from Sunnis .
They're asking people to be like Arabs and have dozens of children in their families while most of the Iranians are civilized and educated and never gonna make same mistake again . I hope we focus on quality not quantity .
Can you provide a source for that?
WTF !?
If you don't rise the young population now, 25 years later, your old population(+65) will surpass young population(+18).
they are milliard people , they have the options to encourage peoples to move to the area of the country that are less populated by invest more in those area and develop them . and china easily can manage milliard even more by changing that 1 child policy to 2 child policy they can stop their population declineDo you realise who the intended audience is for this video?
Not surprised about Canada, our news service already talked about the number of seniors (65+) have surpassed the number of children (everyone under 18).
They don't have a choice at this moment. If they do nothing they face the same conditions as India or try to manage it until there is sufficient resources.
This is a good move. Iran is a large country and should have a higher population then 80 million. We just need to make sure the infrastructure is in place to support the higher population levels.
We also do not want to get to a place like Japan or Europe where we have too many old people and need to allow emigration into the country.
