What's new

INS Vikramditya, India's second aircraft carrier, out at sea again

It only says 2x8 Barak I for Vikki. You've taken 8 Kashtan from Kuznetsov, which is a far larger ship (65k ton)

So what do you think the final AD configuration will be? Wiki is a TERRIBLE source. :frown:

The Viki will get its own BARAK-1 systems not the ones off the VIRAAT- the IN isn't poverty-stricken. The Viraat is said to stay in-service until at least 2017/18 anyway so the Viki won't be left wanting this system for 4-5 years.

Perhaps. It has nothing to do with being poverty striken, though. Clearly the Barak I on Viraat is much younger than the ship is, so it would be a waste - silly! - to toss the Barak launchers on her when she's retired. I doubt it would be a good idea to keep VIraat in service when Vikki has been delivered (she would be of marginal operational value). Plus, I think those few SHARs may also not last.

Currently the Vikramaditya doesn't have any kind of missile's or CIWS system installed on her. The text below is directly copied from the link.

Most likely a pair of AK 630 and 2x8 or 2x16 Barak 1, pretty much that standard sellf defence fit in the IN these days...

No it isn't, provided you check the sources of any wiki (and hence don't use sourceless wiki's). Wiki is weak is a lame argument.

Agree on all points and my comment about the "poverty striken" was a joke! The biggest issue is that the Viki can't be left waiting some 4-5 years for the BARAK-1 CIWS so it will have no choice but to get new VLS and associated BARAK-1 hardware. But what I've heard is the IN wants to keep the Viraat around until 2017/18 for crew training purposes. But yes, the number of SHs flying and the overall age of the ship make the Viraat's military utility effectively naught.

You might even see her disarmed then while still in service in a training role ...

The new link I posted seems much more accurate

Sorry, which link?

Wiki doesn't provide sources for every bit of information. Its just put me in a spot many times when I've quoted it and the info tunred out to be less than accurate.

I think that might be likely, although will the vikrant be of any particular use as a tranining ship?:undecided:

The P 500 Bazalt bed is still there....a reason why Viki was chosen..

Why is INS Vikramaditya being called India's second Aircraft carrier? Shouldn't it be third..? We had INS Vikrant and INS Viraat ACCs before..INS Viraat is decommissioned and INS Vikrant is retired for all practical purposes..

The P 500 Bazalt bed is still there....a reason why Viki was chosen..and don't forget the Kamov 31 Early warning...
