What's new

Indian truck makers face the heat from Chinese brands in Sri Lanka

To all here, please ,we as most populated nations face same problems, Were part of BRICS right it will only be a matter of time when they introduce a common currency for ASIA just like Euro.If people who started 2 world wars and most wars in world can be friends and be joined to make one currency and Euro Nations, Why can't we? It's time we started thinking about our own people!
What say?

off topic - so the chinese taunt a few times and you want peace? why not stand ground or ignore? you obviously have a point there on the bad experiences of countries importing chinese goods

on topic - China obviously has a large manufacturing base. the quality of the goods are not its best selling point. the best selling point for chinese stuff is price. thats not to say those goods are worthless. it was almost impossible to manufacture at the cost at which chinese are manufacturing goods. but you need to ask - at what cost is this coming?

Dangote, Sinotruk ink $100 million export deal

2013-07-11 09:38

A significant milestone in China's trade relations with Africa was reached recently when industrial giant Dangote Group of Nigeria and Shandong-based China National Heavy Duty Truck Company (Sinotruk) signed a contract for delivery of 1,700 heavy trucks and 1,700 semi-trailers.

The contract was concluded on the eve of the state visit to China by Nigeria's President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan from July 9 to 12.

After several months of negotiations led by Dangote Group Founder and President Aliko Dangote and Sinotruk Chairman Ma Chunji, the two companies finally reached agreement earlier this month. Both leaders personally attended the signing ceremony on July 6 in Beijing, illustrating the importance of the transaction, said the group.

The vehicles will be used to expand Dangote's ground fleet, a critical component of its extensive nationwide distribution network.

The network is crucial to national and regional availability of the wide range of items produced by various companies in the group, including cement, industrial and edible salt, food and other consumer items.

Dangote is a diversified continental conglomerate and Africa's largest manufacturer and supplier of cement, which contributes greatly to the continent's construction and infrastructure development. It is also largest corporate employer in Africa, according to the company.

Information from the group referred to Aliko Dangote's single-minded determination to create a major brand in Africa that would be among the world's best. This determination has been rewarded with much success and praise worldwide.

The same sources have also lauded his visionary emphasis on enhancing the local value-added dimension of African economies.

Aliko Dangote, a 56-year-old family man and physical fitness enthusiast, is the richest man in Africa, according to the most recent annual ranking of the world's richest in Forbes magazine.

Analysts said the Sinotruk deal comes at a crucial time as China begins to feel increasing pressure in foreign trade from other Asian countries as well as its traditional rivals in the West.

They said an appreciating Chinese currency and lower-cost labor in emerging Asian exporting countries have affected opportunities for Chinese companies, particularly in Africa.

In addition, the US, EU nations, India and South Korea are competing more aggressively for market share in Africa, now acknowledged to be one of the fastest-growing regions in the world.

The same analysts predict that this vehicle export transaction will create highly desired employment opportunities both for Sinotruk in China and for Dangote Group in its home base of Nigeria.

The focus on local and cross-border employment explains why there has been significant support for the deal from both Chinese and Nigerian agencies and institutions, said the two companies.

Established in 1956, Sinotruk has its headquarters and main manufacturing facility in Jinan, capital of Shandong province.

Sinotruk was the pioneering enterprise in the development of heavy-duty truck manufacturing in China. The nation's first wholly self-manufactured heavy truck rolled off the company's assembly line in 1960.

In the past, the company has developed strategic technical partnerships with major international brands such as Steyr in Austria and Mann in Germany. These havehelped Sinotruk penetrate key global markets. Nigeria is one of the most important of these markets.

China Export & Credit Insurance Corporation (Sinosure) played an important role in facilitating the success of the landmark truck deal between Dangote and Sinotruk by providing short-term financing in partnership with commercial banks in China.

Beijing-based Andaz Global Solutions was involved in providing business and financial advisory services throughout all phases of the deal. The company focuses on Sino-African collaboration in key sectors such as oil and gas, infrastructure, mining and power.

Maybe you need to make a trip out west to know how Indian products have made their mark in those markets, and we've only just begun. The chaptas introduced their products to the west before India ever did; got laughed at (as did some of ours), and eventually shoo'd out the door like malaria carrying mosquitos. Of course, both the Indians and the chaptas are getting better at their game as time goes by, and healthy competition is a good thing.

You reap what you sow, so watch your mouth, please.

kid, im living in the U.K and Europ to your delusion``and the reality is made in china electronics in big department stores, made in China data processing units for Banks, mobile companies and big institutions and made in China industrial equipment for construction sites and even building their aircraft carrier, and basically everything from low-end to high-end```but all I can see about india is those small Indian convenient shops in shaggy areas and to the best those Indian contractors working for the bank's IT department who typing in figures in spreadsheet all day long``

well, the way we see it,your high tech indigenous product is far worse than our inferior mediocre products...

yet somehow China is world's biggest high tech exporter, exports $457 billion worth of it (not to mention similar amount consumed domestically), which is more than U.S and Germany combined (190bn and 180bn respectively)

and what about the delusional India? $12,870,672,544 to be more precisely``yeah too much for those self-bragged 'IT powerhouse' and 'tech savvy' Indians

and to add that, I did business with Indians in London before and I know the quality standards of India products, as soon as those Indian businessmen got a source of Chinese supply they'd ditch their Indians supply without a hesitation

Oh I forgot India does not make any subway coaches。:azn:

After Delhi, Bangalore, it will be Jaipur’s turn

Mining and rail coach major BEML Ltd. on Friday said that it was rolling out the first set of metro rail cars from its facilities this month for Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation.

BEML was contracted in 2011 to supply 40 metro cars — or 10 train sets of four cars each — for the Pink City at a cost of Rs. 318 crore.

The defence public enterprise also supplies rail cars for the Delhi and Bangalore metros.

BEML, which expects a higher than normal 35-plus per cent of its total turnover (Rs. 2,726 crore in 2011-12) from the rail and metro cars business, said that it was also supplying to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation its new in-house product, the intermediate metro car. The new car would increase the capacity from a four-car train to a six-car train.

Delhi Metro has ordered 136 sets of intermediate cars valued at Rs. 925 crore. Of them, 54 cars have been delivered and 36 are in use, the company said.

“Opportunities look bright for BEML’s Metro business with Delhi and Bangalore metros coming out with new or capacity addition projects. BEML has also firmed up plans to enter into the track maintenance vehicles segment with a global manufacturer,” it said.

It expects orders from the Railways for additional 720 coaches and 36 stainless steel EMUs (electric multiple units) in addition to the existing orders in various car categories.

In the defence business, BEML said, it was firming up plans to make armoured recovery vehicles for the Army and exploring supply of components and aggregates for combat vehicles.

For years, BEML-assembled heavy duty Tatra off-road trucks have been a mainstay of its defence business. Last year, the company was in the eye of a storm and lost some defence business after the then Army chief alleged corruption in the supply of these trucks to the Army.

The CBI is investigating the allegation.

Mining

In its main business of mining and construction equipment, which is around 55 per cent of its turnover, BEML recently received orders worth Rs. 230 crore apart from orders worth Rs. 200 crore being executed this fiscal.

Vehicles and spares worth Rs. 175 crore have been exported this fiscal. To meet a growing demand for earthmoving equipment of higher capacity, BEML said that it had developed a 180-tonne excavator and a 150-tonne dump truck with electrical drive.
