HYDERABAD: Rashi Raina, one of IAF's six women fighter pilots, sustained minor injuries when a trainee aircraft Kiran crashed near Hyderabad on Friday.

The team of IAF officials rushed to the spot and are verifying the cause of the incident.

According to police commissioner V Shiva Kumar, "The lone women pilot survived as she ejected herself before the crash. Rashi suffered a leg injury and received first aid at the Siddipet local hospital and was later moved to Hakimpet for further treatment. There were no casualties in the incident."
According to experts, frequent air crashes are being reported as the Indian Air Force is still using the ageing HJT-16 Kiran aircraft fleet to train its fighter pilots. In fact, the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) has recommended phasing out these jets.

In 2014, the CAG pulled up Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for a 14-year delay in inducting Intermediate Jet Trainers and even after three years of the CAG report, the prototype of HJT-36 Sitara is yet to be inducted as it failed the crucial spin test.

An Indian Air Force (IAF) Kiran trainer aircraft crashed on Friday after taking off from Hakimpet in Telangana.

The trainee pilot of the aircraft and another person on board ejected safely before the crash, Additional Commissioner of Police, Siddipet district, Ramesh, said, adding that both have been admitted to the local government hospital.

The aircraft crashed in Siddipet district's Bandaram village, the ACP said.

IAF sources told PTI that the plane crashed 50 km away from Hakimpet air force station.

The IAF has initiated a court of inquiry, they said.

The aircraft was on a routine training mission.

we need to induct good trainer planes, our pilots are our main assets, not some metal junk......we can replace them with 2:agree:

You know that we have old wreck planes such as mig21. We are short by many squadron.

I am not denying pilots are important but just know our aukat in check. We have jobless youth in numbers who can very well fit pilots but no money to buy expensive euro products. Just be humble. We need to protect both money is important too we have farmer and poor committing suicide for lack of daily bread

Quite an unfortunate event regardless pilot survives and has some incredible stories to share but the accident in Ind / Pak raises the serious concern over numbers as world has move to quality and safety but both countries are looking numbers
