Indian Army using Bofors and heavy artillery after getting a beating

There is no next level of firepower.Pak towed artillery in mountainous terrain of LOC consists of 122mm and 130mm older guns and 155mm american guns with less range than bofors.

Wait a minute the Bofors has an effective firing range of just two miles more (13miles) compared to the 11 miles of the M109.
Let's rule out self propelled guns, then the Panter has a similar range, trust me there's an answer to those Swedish guns....

There has been a lot of talk of panter deal, but status remains unknown and so far none have been seen on LOC.
M198 is the only equivalent gun,but numbers are lower.

Title is misleading.Bofors has only been used in those sectors where pak posts are well dug in and 120 mm mortars are relatively ineffective and PA has geographic height/terrain advantage. In other sectors business as usual.

What?????? There's 72 in service!!!!!

And a Pakistani talking about courage.
Thanks macho man
Loooool our women would beat the shit out of your dirty lungi wearing cow urine drinking starving twits on the border.....the mighty baboon come and cross the border and I don't mean in your Bollywood wet dream. I mean for real

.
Weight of 155mm shell is about 42 kg,
Weight of M46 130mm Shell is about 33 Kg,Bofor has advantage as compared to M46 a.k.a Type 59-i.
I have no data on Guided shells of 130mm,Pakistan may have Guided Munitions for them.

@Signalian
Actually none of these Guns has any disastorus effect due to geography and altitude sometimes when compared to well placed and well directed 120mm Mortor Battery. In hilly areas these little tubes can bring Havoc,on enemy sitting anywhere.
Weight is not only factor, Quantity of explosive in the shell and how much that explosive amounts to weight also matters. Charge, fuze, casing etc are other factors.

The targets given on both sides can be destroyed by both calibres, so the difference isnt much. The weight matters when its counter battery fire and for that PA got 203mm M-110.

.
Purchasing power parity. India like to use PPP to calculate everything. They brag that they have the world’s third largest economy according to PPP. Well, they have trouble buying Rafale because they want to buy it in PPP.
Thank you.....

.
Why its a draw back?

Compare all three, TRAJECTORY in hills

1. Field Gun 130mm
2. Howitzer 155mm
3. Mortar

why not M115 largest one ? 203mm monster . the mighty largest gun of south asia 8inch rounds

A battery may be used for counter battery fire, but i dont think that CBR is the aim now. Two limiting factors;

1. Weight. M-115 is 16 Tons. Type-59-I is 8 Tons. Although PAA can transport M-115 in unassembled pieces just like PAA moves Type-59-I up in the mountains.

2. Range. 16 km is normal but gun is modernised and PA uses advanced munitions. Cant say for sure if range reaches 35km +.

We will keep on using the 122mm - 130mm as we have been using in the past. It's not about using high calibre weaponry, it's about employing the right tactics.
122mm covers the howitzer part on LOC.

Plus it rotates on its axis when deployed and can can give bursts in all directions 360*

203mm guns are totally obsolete and very heavy. You can't use them in mountain terrain in LOC.Self propelled howitzers are deployed in the desert and punjab plains, not LOC mountains.(Even then american self propelled guns have less range than bofors).Pak army has no towed mobile artillery with range and power of bofors, thats why they couldn't counter it in kargil despite having height advantage.
203mm guns are considered obsolete because western countries declared them obsolete and shifted to standard of 155mm calibre due to ease of logistics and maintenance in overseas deployment. Also, 175mm and 203mm were used effectively in counter battery but new tactics and up-ranging of 155mm was considered and implemented.

Such heavy guns still form the Artillery regiments of Field Artillery Brigades attached to Corps HQ with usually 12 guns in a Regiment.

Guess how many 203mm are in Turkish Army.

:disagree:

All guns have been modernised to certain extents and most are capable of using upgraded and guided munitions. If these guns are so old and outdated, IA should have been able to shut them up easily with their modern guns. Also, it doesn't make sense to waste ammunition by firing obsolete guns which may have limited range and accuracy. PA is not on liberty to spend munitions without effect.

What PA will test??

Dont think so, too heavy for LOC, M-198 may be first option also if we have some Panters then use them on LOC now.
Please don't forget to share the results from Panter with folks back in Turkey!!! They are increasingly getting better with manufacturing 155mm guns like Firtina which is taking a heavy toll on well entrenched proxy terrorists inside Syria!!!! No alternative to having feedbacks from fields...

it won't be business as usual.
if India can use Bofors or heavy artillery at places where it had disadvantage, why won't Pakistan army do it in places where Indians have such advantages.

Perhaps that is the reason why Pakistan has asked the Kashmiris on Indian side to move away from the LOC. We are bringing in our big toys out now.
big toys may have been already placed and aimed. only order needs to be given. and it will be given when Kashmiri's leave.

Last time i checked M-109s alone had a range of 30km vs 24km of bofors.

What advantage do you possess?

We have alot more 55cal guns than you.. have BB and cluster munition rounds etc.
We have both range and more destructive power backed by SP/shoot n scout.

SP guns are irrelevant in LOC scenario as they can't be deployed in mountain terrain. They are only suitable for punjab plains and desert, facing the IB.PA has more 155 mm SP guns,IA has 400 odd good towed guns in bofors + soltam( leaving aside the 25 m777 and dozen dhanush that arrived in 2017 but not yet deployed fully).
In towed arty of modern 155mm calibre(pre-ww2 era m114 being obsolete ),PA only has 120 odd M198.And maybe 70 odd panter.Which half the number.

Ask your guys posted on LOC, they will give you complete picture.

How do you propose to use tracked vehicles of huge weight on narrow mountain roads and altitude. In kargil there was no real use of SP artillery, only towed and truck mounted MBRLs were used. This is why USA had to use towed artillery in afghanistan during tora bora and other campaigns, even though its original force was all mechanized artillery and MBRLs.

After 15 yrs, artillery fired along LoC in Uri

Srinagar, February 24

After a gap of 15 years, when India and Pakistan inked a ceasefire agreement, the troops on both sides today exchanged artillery shells across the Line of Control (LoC) in the Uri sector, triggering panic in the area as more residents were evacuated to safer places. As the ceasefire violation along the LoC has now almost become daily, the use of artillery by the two armies has effectively put the 2003 agreement in tatters. The artillery shells were fired despite bad weather in the area. From Monday, the firing in Hajipir, Uri sector, over 120 km from Srinagar, was restricted to mortar shelling and small arms fire but things escalated on Saturday morning as heavy artillery was exchanged. There were, however,

no reports of casualities even as seven villages, having a population of 8,000, were affected.“We responded to their artillery shelling and targeted their posts,” defence sources said.Uri Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Sagar D Doifode said in the wake of artillery exchange, a high alert had been sounded in Uri.“We are taking all precautions and have evacuated residents from the shelling-prone area,” Doifode told The Tribune.Srinagar-based defence spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia said Pakistan violated ceasefire around noon in the Uri sector.“The unprovoked ceasefire violation by Pakistan in the Uri sector since 11.50 am. Our troops retaliated,” said the spokesman. There were reports earlier this week that Indian troops had damaged a Pakistani bunker in the Hajipir sector.Pakistani troops today targeted many areas and Indian posts along the LoC in Churanda, Silikote, Balakote and Tilawari villages. Two houses were damaged in the Pak shelling in Silikote area and many residents were evacuated.A villager said announcements were made by the Pakistan army from mosques across the LoC since the morning, asking residents on this side to vacate houses.“These announcements, followed by intense shelling, created a panic in the village,” he said. The local administration has pressed into service scores of vehicles, including ambulances, to evacuate civilian population.

“A high alert has been sounded in Uri and even NHPC officials have been told to alert their men as they have two power houses here,” the SDM said. The latest flare-up began on Monday when Pakistan violated the ceasefire in the Uri sector, injuring three civilians. A day later BSF Constable Sunil Murmu was killed in the Tangdhar sector in Kupwara district. On Wednesday, two Pakistani soldiers were killed when a counter-assault was launched by the Indian Army and BSF in Tangdhar. On Thursday, a fresh ceasefire violation took place in the Uri sector and around 500 villagers were shifted to a rehabilitation centre. On Friday, the Army claimed to have foiled a Border Action Team attack in the Tangdhar sector.
