India could purchase more than $7 billion’s worth of weapons from Russia, local media reported Monday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — In late November, the Indian Foreign Ministry told Sputnik that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was scheduled to visit Moscow on December 24-25.

According to the Kommersant newspaper, breakthrough deals in the military-technical sphere could be expected from Modi’s visit. The total package of contracts is estimated to be worth more than $7 billion.

A source close to the Indian Defense Ministry told RIA Novosti last week that an agreement on joint Russian-Indian production of Ka-226T helicopters was likely to be signed either during or after Modi’s visit. An ambassadorial source told the media outlet that India’s arms purchase committee had approved the purchase of five S-400 air defense systems which could be worth around $5.8 billion.

Russia and India have enjoyed mutually beneficial strategic relations, especially in the field of defense and military cooperation, since the 1960s. Russia is among India’s foremost weapons suppliers. Over two-thirds of the Indian Army, Air Force and Navy military equipment is Russian- or Soviet-made.

You should stop using Internet mobiles cars bikes and use that amount to feed hungry people. Never waste your time and money by hiring watchmen for your house or offices as that money can be used to feed hungry stomach. It's really shame if you have gone for some restaurants. Shame on u. 1) India's defence budget as a proportion of GDP is 1.78% as compared to Pakista's that is 3-4%
2) Of the national budget the defence budget occupies but 10-13%*, of Pakistan's national budget the military consumes >25% of your national budget
3) India spends FAR more (both in real terms and as a percentage of its GDP) on healthcare, education and poverty alieviation. India and China are the ONLY two nations to have met their UN MDGs on poverty reduction- in the same time poverty in Pakistan has INCREASED. Every year India is pulling >10,000,000 people out of poverty.
4) Pakistan is the only nation I can think of who has seen an increase in illiteracy as its GDP has grown.

These aren't extraordinary defence purchases but contained within the defence budget which is only 1.78% of GDP, are you asking India to spend even less than 1.78% on defence? What would be acceptable to you? 0.1%??


+ The 600 million figure is totally absurd, the poverty in India is unacceptably high but it is not that high and concrete steps are being taken to reduce it year in year out.

Nothing "happened" to that scheme, it is an ongoing policy that is going to bring significant long term benefits for India. Not everything can be pursued under Make in India and the S-400 are a perfect example. That isn't to say there won't be indian made sub-components on the Indian S-400s.
