In a significant development, India has given the Letter of Request to the French government for the procurement of 26 Rafale Marine fighter aircraft for the Indian Navy under a government-to-government deal.

The Letter of Request has been delivered to the French government a few days back and they are expected to decide on the Indian request and respond in the near future, top defence sources told ANI.

The LoR is like a tender document in which the Indian government has specified all its requirements and capabilities that it would want to have in the Rafale Marine aircraft being acquired for the aircraft carriers INS Vikrant and INS Vikramaditya, they said.

The Indian Navy and the Indian government are working in a fast-track mode to ensure that the acquisition contract is signed at the earliest and Indian carriers can operate the highly capable aircraft to ensure an edge for New Delhi in the Indian Ocean region.

The aircraft deal worth around Euro 5.5 billion was cleared by the defence acquisition council just before the visit of the Indian Prime Minister to France as the state guest for their Bastille Day parade this year in July.
As per the proposal, the Indian Navy will get 22 single-seated Rafale Marine aircraft along with four trainer aircraft.

The aircraft carriers INS Vikramaditya and Vikrant have been operating the MiG-29s and need the Rafales for operations on both carriers.

India would be requesting the integration of its indigenous missiles including the Astra air-to-air missile as part of the package from France.

The configuration of the aircraft is expected to be similar to what has been provided to the Indian Air Force. (ANI)

Why indian navy do not use Navalized Tejas for their carriers and wasted so much hard earned money to buy french jets which are export versions and not the fully capable Rafale

Naval TEJAS is not capable as rafale and its a light weight fighter whereas rafale is medium to heavy weight fighter

The LCA Navy is a single-engine jet and the under-development twin-engine variant is the one slated to be inducted

Why is Indonesia buying 42 Rafales ?

Indian Airforce will induct 220 Tejas across different blocks ( 40+83+97)

Single Engined Tejas doesn't have the required thrust to takeoff with 4 AAMs and 2 AShMPs from a ski jump

Its good enough for training pilots on how to takeoff and land on ski jump based carriers, but not good enough for maritime combat

Good but we would have enough J 10 by than. The real issue is India MMRCA contract. India made a terribly wrong decision by just ordering 36 only. You should have ordered 126 and than addition of these 26 will have made a real impact.

At this stage , IAF is like leaf blowing in the wind , directionless and moving in random direction with no purpose

while PAF step by step in professinal manner take correct course with long term advantage in mind.

PAF moving away from 3rd rate export version of US jets are correct way to wean off dependence on US the unreliable partner.

Moving to J17 (constantly modernized) and J10 (far more capable than Rafale) and in the future will get china's stealth jets

the next air to air encounter will truly a sight to behold as Chinese made PL15 destroy IAF's export version of Rafale in large numbers

Only a fool will consider J10CE to be better than Rafales

why is Indonesia buying 42 Rafales from france and not J10CE like PAF
Why did UAE order 80 Rafales
Why did Qatar buy 36 Rafales
Why did Egypt buy 24 Ralales
Why did Greece buy 18 Rafales
Why is Saudi Arabia negotiating for buying 54 Rafales

most of these countries barring Greece should have no problem ordering J10CE , given their good relations with China

J-10C uses lots of technology from j20 that world don't know so saying that J-10C is inferior to RAFALE is ridiculous and absurd
