well the US has little to no influence over the Indian military. Russian influence permeates through the military, civil service and political circles. The French are a distant second followed by the British.

India will only purchase US gear in the absence of alternate gear from Russia, France and the UK. Even if the alternate is outclassed by US options in terms of capability and cost. So no, I don't think India will purchase a US fighter.

The SIG716 is a good example of an approved acquisition that was 'sabotaged' by vested interests.
