India asked to stop work on Kishanganga and Ratle projects

ISLAMABAD: A rare joint sitting of the two committees of the National Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution seeking immediate suspension of work on two disputed projects by India and constitution of an arbitration court to resolve the ongoing water dispute between the two countries.

The resolution adopted by the committee on foreign affairs, water and power, called upon the World Bank to constitute a court of arbitration to adjudicate on issues raised by Pakistan against India’s ongoing construction of Kishanganga and Ratle hydro projects.

Under the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT), it is the responsibility of the World Bank to play its role without further delay.

Need to tell these joint committees ,first go and read the IWT carefully... it never stops india to build dams . if pakistan has issues with the design then it can complain. same was done by pakistan and everyone knows what was the outcome. its time to go for get 50/50 share.... india is planning on this ... as per news indian parliament will decide on this very soon.

Resolve what? These dams do not store water. These are hydro power plants/dams and will benefit Kashmir.

we are ok with 50 50 share. but would you give our 50 share in the other 3 rivers given to india under IWT?
And you should have decided it when you signed it in first place. You would lose case every where after breaking the treaty and remember World bank is 193 countries.
and remember water is coming from china who would then do the same with moral justification as india would have already done that.

This is already the subject of a pending adjudication. Interim orders have been last passed in 2013 and the best course of action is to go back to the PCIA if it wants a 'stop work' order. http://www.dawn.com/news/788524

Anyway - even as a non-legally binding request this is the worst way to get someone to do your bidding - make a public drama about it. Should have been more discreetly handled. Now whatever chance there was of the Indian government considering this (or the other request for information) will be reduced given the raised political takes after this public announcement.

Hopefully the two 'committees' got a good lunch before dispersing - the only concrete part of their purpose for living. Very likely they themselves had a hearty laugh after the 'resolution'.
