India and China :Jostling for space in the sea??

We dont have any major naval power in the neighbourhood you forgot about that.so it is not the case for them:taz:

that's only because US look down on IN now,you will have "major neighbourhood" very soon

India needs to protect its interests and so does China. Does it mean the two should go to war???

How does either country protect its interests by waging war which will undoubtedly cause widespread destruction to interests of both??

The inferences being drawn by some on this thread are meaningless and illogical.

What do you mean by that PLAN in IOR??Sorry PLAN has its hand full in the Pacific too many things to engage for them there sorry

PLA don't need that oil line to cause enough damage to india, there is enough oil reserves in xinjiang,i am talking about country like US and japan

idiot, you don't know our oil reserves, there are also a lot in the South China Sea,it's all available when the war comes, and the war is not gonna last for decades

do you know india's current oil reserves will be running out before 2019 if india stop importing

India is yet to use even 30% of its oil and natural gas resources. They are a lot of resources yet to be tapped

Ya you will put a rig overnight and tap it off lol.India has too much of strategic depth with respect to China sorry you can't do anything to us

keep fooling yourself with this so-call strategic depth.if you look at india from Tibetan Plateau, india is just a open country ,india ocean is important to the world, that's why india will never be strong enough to control it

You forgot the himalayas at the border. You cant use PLAAF at tibet neither you can use your tanks except in two places. The PLA can never do a fullscale assault on India through the Himalayas.

Vast Indian oil field starts production in Rajasthan

2009/08/29

Penny Macrae, AFP

BARMER: Britain’s Cairn Energy on Saturday began pumping crude from a vast oilfield in the Indian desert state of Rajasthan that is set to increase the country’s crude output by 20 per cent.

Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh told a ceremony inaugurating the field that Cairn’s success showed global investors that “India has a good climate for foreign investment.”

“I invite investors from around the world to come and invest in India,” he said from the western Thar Desert, site of the Cairn development.

“The government will give all its support,” he promised.

Cairn’s field, the country’s largest onland field and the biggest find in over two decades, will increase India’s oil output by 20 per cent once it hits its initial peak production target of 175,000 barrels a day in 2011.

India, which imports at least 70 per cent of its oil needs, has been frantically racing to find new energy sources to fuel its fast-growing economy.

Cairn, which has spent two billion dollars so far on developing the field, plans to invest up to 1.3 billion dollars more to increase production.

Cairn bought out the field in 2002 from Anglo-Dutch giant Shell, which had concluded it contained no major reserves. Two years later, Edinburgh-based Cairn struck oil.

Cairn founder and chairman Bill Gammell said he had never dreamt the find would turn out to be so big.

“I knew it had enormous potential but I didn’t envisage the size and scale,” he told the ceremony held in a huge tent under baking sun.

“I look forward to many more years of development,” he said.

Launch of the oil field kicked off to the thumping background tune of “Jai Ho,” the Oscar-winning theme song from “Slumdog Millionaire.”

Cairn estimates the Barmer field, in which state-run Oil and Natural Gas Corp holds 30 per cent, contains 3.5 billion barrels of crude, of which it is technically feasible to recover at least one billion barrels.

Gammell said Cairn’s success in working with the Indian government in developing the field was a “clear signal to the rest of the world that India provides opportunities and support” to foreign investors.

He said the five years it took between discovery of the oil and bringing it on stream was a “timescale few countries can match.”

India has been courting foreign investment to propel economic growth but many investors have complained about frustrating regulatory hurdles and bureaucratic red tape.

A number of big foreign investments such as a 12-billion-dollar project by South Korean steelmaker POSCO have been hit by delays.

Cairn has made 25 oil discoveries in the Barmer region — of which the three biggest are Mangala, Bhagyam and Aishwariya.

Petroleum Minister Murli Deora said the field’s output would shave seven per cent off India’s oil import bill.

The crude will be trucked to state-run refiners until the completion of a pipeline slated for year end.

Deora said India needs to conduct more exploration, adding the Barmer and other recent finds were proof India is “rich in hydrocarbon reserves.”

That was in contrast to expert views after India’s independence in 1947 that the country was “hydrocarbon barren,” he said. - AFP

do you know india's current oil reserves will be running out before 2019 if india stop importing

I can confirm the validity of this. Here's some approximate numbers:

US imports >95%
Europe imports ~100%
India imports ~90%
China imports ~65% (can be reduced to 30% if use local reserves)

These numbers are based not on 'reserves booked' by national oil & gas companies, rather one where the reserves are located. For example, the "North Sea" has been a mature field for last 30 years!!! Do you guys know that Egypt has produced MORE oil than ALL OF NORTH SEA COMBINED -- while Egyptian fields still producing well for another few decades, the North Sea has been at break-loss for the last decade? :smitten:

If any pipelines or refineries or tankers or wells are attacked, you can rest assured EVERYONE will be affected. Both buyers and sellers will see all of their investments blown up. :sniper: So this discussion about India attacking China is immature and childish. Please close the thread or move-on.

god,who will use tanks in the first round of attacks , tanks will be only transport to southern tibet (your so-call arunachal )if there will be a india-china war, assuming PLA cross the Himalayas,it will be just 400miles from New Delhi ,tank is useless then.sorry,PLA is not interest in New Delhi,PLAN just need to keep the IN away from south china sea in the war ,if PLA show up in indian ocean,it will be just a escort mission
