We all know how on 27th February 2019, during Pakistan Air Force's counter offensive to earlier failed Balakot strikes by the Indian Air Force, in addition to shooting down two IAF fighter jets, PAF had at least 7 other Indian aircraft squarely painted and all could have been shot down with just press of some buttons.
It has now emerged that among others, the OC of PAF No 26 Squadron flying in his JF-17 had a Mirage-2000 firmly locked with no chance of escape. He was repeatedly heard, shouting and begging for clearance to ''Fire''. Unfortunately, in the light as not to escalate hostilities, that clearance never came. However, under the circumstances. Just imagine the shockwave the news of a Thunder taking out Mirage-2000, would have sent across the world. None the less PAF can rejoice in the fact that when the test came, the JF-17 held more than it's own against Indian front line fighters.

next time what I can’t understand is there are over 150 different types of aircraft deployed in Kashmir with at least 1 squadron of mirages ( we know 12 were stationed there from a night before) why did they jot all scramble. Why were more aircraft not scrambled ? PAF attacked with over 25 aircraft. Why did the IAF not scramble more aircraft they enjoyed an 6:1 numerical superiority?

A Vayu Sena Medal (Gallantry) was awarded to a Flight Lieutenant Gaurav Chibber who belonged to 223 MiG-29 Squadron. Albeit he died when his aircraft crashed on 6th August 1999, nonetheless, it should be remembered that all IAF action during the Kargil Conflict, took place on the Indian side of LOC. Neither Airforce crossed into the other's airspace and when the IAF aircraft did cross the LOC, either deliberately or inadvertently, they paid the price.

Flight Lieutenant Gaurav Chibber (22926-T) Flying (Pilot) was on the posted strength of a Fighter Squadron, AF, since 01 June 98. Before coming to this Squadron, he was a Fully Ops Pilot on the Jaguar aircraft with numerous qualifications; like Photo recce and EW. His transformation from a Strike Pilot to an Air Defence Pilot, flying a Russian aircraft for the first time, in such a short duration, is truly praiseworthy.

Flight Lieutenant Chibber was the youngest MiG-29 Pilot taking part in the Kargil Operations. He performed admirably in carrying out 29 missions which included Area CAP, Tied Escorts and CRC missions by day and night. As a young leader he led many of these missions ensuring the strike aircraft achieved their objectives unhampered by enemy air opposition. Despite having only 100 hrs on type he made noteworthy contribution towards the success of operations in this sector. In one mission he handled the aircraft radar systems optimally to search and acquire two enemy F-16 aircraft, warding off a possible threat, enabling our strike force to destroy their designated target.

Flight Lieutenant G Chibber had a very good rapport with the airmen and his warm and friendly nature had kept the morale of the men high. In this high pressure situation he had been an asset to the Squadron, admirably performing his duties. He had shown great keenness and involvement in all activities.

For this dedication to duty, perservance and professionalism beyond the call of duty, the Hon'ble President is pleased to award 'Vayu Sena Medal' to Flight Lieutenant Gaurav Chibber, Posthumous.

IAF lost a su30 mki and a mig-21. This rattled the IAF and two mirages on cap returned to base complaining of there radar not working. There was utter confusion and fear in the IAF that day.

most Indian analysts accept that the su-30 mki is a sever disaster because the incompetent Air Force (IAF) decided to merge Israeli jammers with French avionics and Russian radar creating the su-30 fracas monster. why else would India buy Rafael. The Indian prime Minister accepted defeat by saying that if they had rafales there defeat would have been a victory

it was 4 su-30mki if not 5. Why do you think the IAF was so afraid to not even scramble one more aircraft and recall all the mirages.

any Air Force with 5 airbases and 150 aircraft would have put up much more of a fight. The only time this has happened in the past is when Isreal shot down 40+ Syrian aircraft in one sortie. This was because the Syrians decided to go all in against Isreal.
