The general recommendation for daily intake of fruit and vegetables is more than 400 grams per person per day or about 150 kg per person per yea. Information from the FAO statistical database suggests that the total supply of fruit and vegetables available is 173 kg per person per year, which divides into 111.6 kg of vegetables and 61.4 kg of fruit.

Have you had enough today?

. . . . . .
Living on fruits and MRE for past one week. Too lazy to go to the market :P

The problem with Asians is that we cook our vegetables before consumption, depleting them of most of their nutrition. While we eat a lot more, we probably receive roughly the same amount of vitamins than Western countries that eat less.

. . . .
I can tell, I'm not for sure
But my next door neighbours are strict vegetarians. I never knew so many kind of vegetarians preparations can be there, such wide variety, before meeting them.
Although I eat meat, if I have four dishes for lunch like today, 3 were vegetables
(one dish was added with some meat to make it more delicious). The remaining one is egg+vegetable soup. In Chinese traditional market or supermarket, there are a lot of choices u can buy, some vegetables are transported from Hainan Island 1500km away like beans. There are also greenhouses in the suburb where anti-season veggies are grown.
One underground supermarket 500m from my home, meet the Chinese kingdom of veggies:D

Having lived abroad, I know that westerners eat too much meat and not enough vegetables. The reasons being:
1. Relative to income, meat is usually quite cheap.
2. They have no idea how to season or serve vegetables. Usually its just eaten raw or steamed or occasionally stewed in a soup (think carrots and onion soup). In western societies, its an ingrained cultural trope that children hate vegetables because they are so unappetizing. When they go abroad and find this idea is not so common elsewhere, they get so surprised.
