I don't know how this conflict can be defused--if it must be defused.
Biden's priority is get the American citizens out first--otherwise, Dems would pay a heavy price in the 2024 elections. Neither the Americans nor the Israelis want to escalate--and nor do the Iranians. But Israelis have to appear to have 'won' and taking sufficient revenge--perhaps face saving deaths of a few top Hamas commanders would be enough? But then there is also the idea of the 'Tent City' in Sinai being floated around but rejected by all Muslim countries. Iran knows if Gazans are totally finished then Hezbollah and Iran itself are next, in that order.
In similar conflicts in past, I'd have said to defuse. But I think this time this conflict needs to end the eternal conflicts there. It is also possible, after the dust settles, Americans would encourage a more moderate govt in Israel to initiate a viable Palestinian State--Netanyahu is absolutely the worst war monger.
There is hectic diplomatic activities going on. But something will have to give and within next 3-4 days at most.

Contrary to some members here, I believe Israel has the right to exist. In the same breath, so do the Palestinians. Oslo agreement is a good place to start.

But we all know IDF’s past extracts, legal at times but illegal most of the times. Engaging in low intensity conflict and perpetually strangling Palestinian is illegal and counterproductive.

Hamas acts against innocent Israelis is to be condemned and there is nothing illegal about it. So does the IDF acts against the Palestinians strangling and bombing Gaza.
