Gaza-Israel Conflict | October 2023

Yemeni Houthi rebels declared their readiness to resume military operations against Israel if the ceasefire agreement with Hamas collapses and Israel recommences its military operations in Gaza. Houthi leader Abdel-Malik al-Houthi stated that the group is "prepared to initiate a military intervention at any moment in response to an escalation against Gaza" emphasizing "Our hands are on the trigger".
Houthis who control a significant portion of western Yemen including capital Sanaa have been actively involved in conflict since November 2023 conducting numerous strikes against commercial and military vessels in Red Sea and launching missiles and drones toward Israel. While they initially indicated a willingness to scale back their assaults following the ceasefire agreement the Houthis have accused Israel of violating the terms of the agreement jeopardizing its continuation. The ceasefire intended to be implemented in three phases involving prisoner exchanges a partial Israeli troop withdrawal and humanitarian aid is now at risk. The Houthis actions are motivated by their ideological agenda which calls for resistance against America and Israel a desire to rally domestic support within Yemen and an ambition to assert themselves as a major regional player.
Houthis involvement in the Israel-Gaza conflict has broader effects for regional stability and international maritime traffic. Their attacks on vessels in Red Sea, disrupted global shipping lanes prompting responses from the US and UK who have conducted strikes against Houthi positions in Yemen.

While in captivity, footage of former Israeli and five Thai "hostages" was released.

They are happy, receiving care, and not in any danger.
